COLIN SCOTT MACKAY
1938 – 2016
Colin was born November 30th, 1938 in Moose Jaw, SK and left us November 21st, 2016. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Myrtle (Elvrum) Mackay; and his sister, Shirley Harding. Colin leaves his wife, Gail (Burgeson) and daughters, Kathy Miller (Arlen) of Grande Prairie, AB, Beth Peddle (Steve) of Edmonton, AB and son, Tom Mackay of Alix, AB. He also leaves his grandchildren: Brit White (Benji) and Aeden Miller, Keira Barbar and Mitchell Barbar; sister, Nancy Hoyes (Chris) and in-laws, Jack and Shirley Burgeson. We are so proud of the man who was so firmly grounded and who had such natural integrity. Colin graduated as a U of S Chemical Engineer in 1961. After graduation, he left for Sudbury, ON to work in research at INCO’s copper refinery. Later he moved to Sault Ste. Marie, working for Abitibi in their research department. He was a “hands-on” man, who was delighted to find work that he loved at Kalium Chemicals (Mosaic) as a process engineer. He eventually became a Senior VP of Operations, Potash Division for International Minerals in Saskatchewan, Big Rapids (Michigan) and Carlsbad (New Mexico). After a year of retirement, he was asked to return to oversee IMC’s Phosphate Division in Lakeland, Florida. It was after his final retirement that Colin and Gail began travelling in earnest. He was as interested and as happy camping in the tribal areas of southern Ethiopia or the Peruvian Andes, as he was when camping with friends and family at home. Colin and Gail were privileged on their last major trip to travel to Syria, a year before the outbreak that devastated that country. A Private Family Service will be held with interment following at Rosedale Cemetery in Moose Jaw, SK. The family would like to thank Doctors Majid, Ogle and Hugo for the care they gave Colin over the last few months. We would also like to thank the staff at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, Providence Place GARU, and the transition unit at Pioneer Lodge. Please know how much you are appreciated. In lieu of flowers, Colin’s family would ask that you perform random acts of kindness. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
