GREGORY ARTHUR LOWE
February 23rd, 1957 – May 30th, 2023
Gregory Arthur Lowe aged 66 years, passed away with his family by his side in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023.
Greg was born in Moose Jaw on February 23rd, 1957, to Phineas and Audrey Lowe; he was the youngest of three children and was guided in his early years by his older sister, Colleen and older brother, Kirby. Greg began his life on the farm and enjoyed chasing the pigs, riding horses, running away from turkeys, catching gophers, building rafts on the pond, swimming in the dugout, and playing in the hay loft.
Greg loved everything about the farm – growing up learning about farming from his father through all the years, which culminated in teaching his own son all about how to farm. One of his greatest joys in life was working the land with the ones he loved.
The family moved into town when Greg was in Grade 3. He would continue to attend Lindale School that year, until the following year when he and his siblings would attend Ross Elementary School. He joined Cub Scouts and Army Cadets and played hockey through many years of his youth.
Greg graduated from Peacock High School in 1975 and went on to study Vocational Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan, graduating in the spring of 1978. Shortly after, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Sandra, on July 15th, 1978. As a young couple, they enjoyed recreational volleyball and curling. They travelled the province watching the Moose Jaw Canucks with their friends through the early years of their marriage.
They started their family in 1981 with the birth of their first daughter, Kimberly, followed by their second daughter, Stephanie in 1985 and their son, Darren in 1991. Greg and Sandra’s love of their family was clear in the upbringing of their kids, always involved in their sports and extra circular activities. Greg was always so proud of his children – would rush in from a day of farming to catch a volleyball, basketball, baseball, bowling, or hockey game. Some of his most enjoyable times were spent playing games, putting together kids’ and grandkids’ Christmas or birthday gifts, and sometimes partaking in playing the latest virtual reality games – often being video-taped by his kids for future replay.
When not farming, Greg enjoyed playing cards with his closest friends, going to Moose Jaw Warriors hockey games with Sandra, and playing the slots in the casinos, including Las Vegas where they would often vacation with family and friends. As a family, they enjoyed vacations to Disneyland, camping at Buffalo Pound, and traveling for many Christmases to Saskatoon and Edmonton to spend the holidays with family. Greg and Sandra also enjoyed watching movies together and going to the theatre to watch the latest releases.
Being noted as a well-respected farmer in the community, Greg was known for his willingness to help and his ability to act as a sounding board for fellow farmers. In addition to farming, he was also a Rural Municipality Counselor from 1989 to 2006.
Greg lost his short but well-fought battle against pulmonary fibrosis, having only been formally diagnosed in April 2023. His family was with him through his last days while in the hospital and they would often comment on the strength of his heart – never giving up and drawing on the love and support of his family.
Greg will be remembered for his dedication to his family, love of farming, hardworking attitude, willingness to help others, and his ability to put together anything thrown his way. His family will miss him at every family dinner and game night.
He was predeceased by his parents, Phineas and Audrey Lowe. Greg is survived by his wife, Sandra; children: Kimberly (Quintin), Stephanie (Luke), and Darren (Kaylee); sister, Colleen (Dave) and brother, Kirby (Robyn); his grandchildren: Lyla, Kayden, Beckham, Laken, and Kaysen, who were the light of his life; as well as his nieces and nephews: Carrie, Valeria, Brock, Amber, Kelly, Darcy, Shelley and Kevin.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their excellent care and attention.
A Celebration of Greg’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Reverend Deacon Arleen Champion officiating.
