Ralph David Loose
August 25th, 1939 – August 29th, 2015
Ralph David Loose, aged 76 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, August 29th, 2015 with his loving wife by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Mary; his son, Lyle; wife, Roberta; two brothers, Glen and Larry; and sister-in-law, Donna. Ralph will be immensely missed by the love of his life, Ev; three children: Steve (Karen), Simone and Shaun (David); six grandchildren: Sarah (Jesse), Kyle (Lorissa), Todd (Jennisa), Jessica (Kevin), Breanne and Reid; seven great-granddaughters: Jordyn, Peyton, Maddyx, Kaybree, Brecklyn, Emilee and Kadri; siblings: Archie (Orlene), Carl (Jean), Marvin (Bev), Ken (Gwen), Marion (Don), Jake (Karen) and Margie (Peter); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ralph was born on August 25th, 1939 in Empress, Alberta. As he always said – “I was born at a very young age.” Ralph was born the fifth child of nine with only one sister. He often remarked he was right in the middle so he had to look after both ends. He had a lot more trouble with the older ones than the younger ones. Ralph grew up on a farm near Waldeck, Saskatchewan. He received his education in Spenst School and excelled in sports, especially fastball where he played third base and shortstop. He moved his young family to Mortlach in 1969 after purchasing the community pasture north of town. The 1970’s were lean years, so he supplemented his income by driving the local school bus and was the school caretaker for several years. In 1979 his wife Roberta and daughter Simone were involved in a tragic car accident, of which sadly his wife did not survive. Ralph was left to care for his three children on his own. During this time his siblings and local community friends stepped up and helped in so many ways. With being so busy on the farm, the children always had someone looking in on them. After a few years there came a call from the school. A meeting was required regarding one of the children. As a result of the meeting a certain teacher was asked on a date. On July 17th, 1982, Ralph married said school teacher, Evelyn Thiessen. They were happily married for 33 wonderful years. Ralph continued building his ranch and herd of cattle. In 1994 he retired from farming at the age of 55 but stayed active restoring and tinkering with old tractors, woodworking, and staying active socially at the community drop-in centre. One of his favourite past times was searching for the next great deal. He loved to deal on tractors, cars, trucks, or merchandise of any kind. Ralph loved music and singing. He was adept at playing piano and guitar. He most enjoyed playing with his brothers, harmonizing for hours together. If the young kids were making too much noise, they simply would turn the power amps up further! For many years he was a song leader at the Coteau Hills Bible Church. He was also involved in singing groups, quartets, trios, and duets with Ev. With his sense of humour he was a natural for the position of MC at various church banquets and family weddings. Ralph also enjoyed traveling, camping, and sports. He worked hard, he played hard, he loved life! Ralph was devoted to his family. He could always be counted on to make any family event fun. We will all miss his quick wit, sense of humour, contagious smile and laughter. The grandchildren loved Grandpa’s stories — and there were many to be told! We will forever love and miss you. Thank you Darling, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa for the wonderful memories you provided us for a lifetime. Ralph’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Providence Place, particularly at Guardian Grove. We thank you all for your never-ending care and compassion. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Moose Jaw Alliance Church, 14 Neslia Place, Moose Jaw, SK. Flowers are gratefully declined.
