LOCKHART, Thelma Luella
August 31st, 1912 to August 12th, 2010
It is with a profound sense of loss that the family of Thelma Lockhart announce her passing on August 12th, 2010, two weeks short of her 98th birthday. She was born in her mother’s home in Smith Falls, Ontario, but came to McCord as an infant where her parents, Robert and Laura Jones, were pioneer settlers. The love of her life was a dashing Irishman, Albert Lockhart. His untimely death, when Thelma was only 42, was a lifelong sadness for her. She never remarried but devoted her life to helping her family and host of friends. She was predeceased by three brothers, Mansel, Lloyd and Wilmer Jones, sister-in-law Myrtle Jones; grandson Jeff Teeling; and son-in-law Don Goodman. She is survived by four daughters who were her pride and joy, Vera Goodman, Laurie (Ray) Mummery, Shirley (Dennis) Teeling and Sheila Reimche. She was a special friend to her eight grandchildren, Cathy Goodman, Susan Blomfield, Judy Goodman, Debbie Payne, Brad Mummery, Laura Teeling, Reggie Reimche and Sherilee Levay and her seven great grandchildren who all knew her very well and greatly valued her love and prayers. Sisters-in law Marleen Jones and Joy Jones and numerous nieces and nephews will also miss her warmth and caring. She is the last of her generation and leaves a huge hole in our family. Thelma was a gracious lady who captured the hearts of everyone who had the good fortune to know her. Her home was always open to anyone who needed a place to sleep or food to eat. She was famous for her ability to serve delicious food on a moment’s notice. Her keen mind, quick wit and strong opinions were evident right to the end. She served God as a Lifetime Member of the Gideons and of the First Free Methodist Church where she contributed in many ways to the life of the congregation. A group of her friends met for Bible Study and prayer every week in her suite at Mulberry Estates until she went into the hospital. She loved her little house on 8th Ave. in Moose Jaw where she lived for 53 years. The family is grateful for the excellent care Mom received at Extendicare, Pioneer Lodge and the Union Hospital. Thanks also to the staff and friends at Mulberry Estates for the four happy years Mom spent there. Mother held her favourite physician Dr. Leon Van Rensburg in high regard and we thank him for his interest and the care shown to her over the years. If friends so desire, Mother’s wish would be to place a Gideon Bible in her name, in lieu of flowers. A Celebration of Thelma’s life will be held on Saturday, August 28th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Free Methodist Church, 375 Hochelaga Street West, Moose Jaw.
