Albert Minard Lisell
Albert Minard Lisell of Moose Jaw and formerly of Riverhurst, passed away at Extendicare, Moose Jaw, on Saturday, January 23rd, 2010. Minard was born July 2nd, 1918 the fifth of six children born to Olaf and Karin Lisell. He received his schooling at Vermillion Country School arriving by horse and buggy, homemade cutter, or walking to school 3 miles from home. Minard started farming in 1934 and farmed with his brothers until 1965. In 1940 Minard reported to Camp Dundurn for military training. On October 29th, 1940 Minard married Nora Sundby, an exemplar union that lasted until Nora’s passing on January 1st, 2003. Their unwavering support for one another was called upon often. Two sons passed away, Dennis Elwood born in 1944 passing away 9 months later, and Roger Lyle died at birth in 1946. They lived on the farm until 1964 when they moved to Riverhurst. Minard worked at Palliser Park from 1965 to 1968 as a maintenance man. In the late 1960’s and 1970’s he worked on the Grant Hall farm, Palliser Park, Riverhurst Rink, and R.M. of Enfield. He worked on the Riverhurst Ferry, starting in 1979 and retiring in 1983. From the mid to late 1980’s he offered his time wherever needed in Riverhurst, until moving to Moose Jaw in March, 1989. Minard became a charter member of the Riverhurst Lions Club in 1968. Minard was a kind and gentle soul, willing to help whenever called upon. He enjoyed his retirement years in Moose Jaw with Nora, as they kept busy with their hobbies of gardening, puzzles, garage sales and keeping their house and yard in immaculate condition. Minard had a wonderful sense of humour, enjoying the lighter side of life. When his TV wasn’t tuned in to Blue Jays baseball, he enjoyed watching either wrestling, or the shouting matches on the Sask. Legislature channel. Family was dear to Minard, and he had a special place in his heart for nephew Marlow, and his sons Kevin and Karl, great niece Debby, great-great niece Jane, and her children Cheyenne and Joey. Minard leaves to mourn his sister Elaine (Edgar) Gustafson; son-in-law Ken Roberton; grandchild Craig Roberton; great grandchild Georgia Roberton; and four generations of nieces and nephews.
