LORNE LINDQUIST
March 24th, 1923 – February 4th, 2013
Lorne Albert Lindquist, aged 89 years of Moose Jaw and formerly of Chaplin, SK, passed away on Monday, February 4th, 2013. Lorne was born March 24th, 1923 near Valjean, SK. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Betty); parents, Fred and Christina Lindquist; granddaughter, Gail; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Mary Hamilton; sisters: Ina, Minnie, Hattie, Mabel and Ella. Lorne is survived by his sister, Audrey, his sons, Alan (Marg) Lindquist and Glen (Lori) Lindquist; daughter, Brenda (Ron) Gleim; grandchildren: Charlene (John) Conway; Bernadette (Scott) McCulloch; Kathy Lindquist, Jeff (Carla) Lindquist, Kris (Kristyn) Lindquist, Deanna (Sheldon) Moore, Kirt (Jenn) Gleim, Erin (Chris) Stephens and Tanya (Chase) Schafer; great-grandchildren: Jenny, Kenny, Carter, Kyle, Kayla, Zoe, Alexander, Erik, Sydni, Ethyn, Sierra, Kasey, Ty, Morgan and Dalton; as well as many “special” nieces and nephews. Lorne grew up in the Valjean area and farmed with his parents. He married Betty on September 15th, 1948. They farmed at Valjean until September 1957, when Lorne and Betty moved to manage the 1+19 BA Service Station west of Chaplin. Lorne and Betty moved into Chaplin in 1977 and spent winters in Yuma, Arizona and the Palm Springs area from 1977 until 2003, where they made many friends. In recent years, they holidayed in Saskatchewan (Waskesiu), Alberta and British Columbia. Lorne deserved an enjoyable retirement for the time he put in as a mechanic and manager of 1+19. Lorne enjoyed his time with Betty watching birds, TV, going for Sunday brunches and taking part in community events. Lorne’s hobbies were yard work, trimming trees, washing and polishing his car, and keeping everything neat and tidy around their place. Lorne also helped Alan with his business and lived with Marg and Alan after Betty passed away. Betty and Lorne were very family oriented and enjoyed having the family so close so they could attend family get-togethers. Lorne was a lifetime member of the Chaplin Lions and Masons. We would like to thank the whole health care system, especially Pioneer Lodge and Extendicare for the wonderful care Lorne received, as well as the support they provided to the family. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chaplin Community Complex. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and interment will take place in Chaplin Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Lorne’s name to the Chaplin Lutheran Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Calvin Gammel, Funeral Director. 693-4550.
