MAUD EVELYN LAVINEWAY (McLeod)
Maud Evelyn Lavineway, aged 96 years of Moose Jaw, SK and formerly of the Brandon, MB area, passed away on Saturday, June 10th, 2017. Maud was born on a farm near the Hamlet of Vista, MB (Shoal Lake, MB area) on July 11th, 1920, the second child in the McLeod family of five. In 1939/40, Maud was accepted to attend the University of Manitoba where she received her diploma in the Homemakers’ Course. Because of her marks in school, she was 1 of 25 girls chosen to attend this class sponsored and paid for by the Government of Manitoba. Maud married Howard Lavineway on June 3rd, 1943 in Brandon, MB. They were blessed with 2 children, Terry and Sherri. Howard worked for Canadian Pacific Railway, so they moved many times throughout Southern Manitoba during their marriage. Maud had a love for sewing, she taught Home Economics sewing at the high school in Virden, MB. Later she taught sewing to 4H clubs in some communities. After Howard’s death, she went to work for Canadian Pacific Railway in Brandon, having to work 4 to midnight shifts and raising her daughter, Sherri. Maud retired from Canadian Pacific in 1985 after 14 years. Her retirement was busy looking after her handicapped brothers and her Mother. She also had time to do crafts and took up quilting. Everyone in the family received a quilt. She also found time to enter many craft shows. In approximately 1997 Maud moved to Moose Jaw to be closer to family but continued her love of crafts and quilting. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard; sister, Beatrice McLeod; brothers: Leonard, Murray, and Robert McLeod. Maud is survived by son, Terry (Linda) Lavineway and daughter, Sherri Trollope (Brian); 6 grandchildren: Tracy (Brad) Balerud, Bonne (Stacey) Zabolotney, Terry (Jane), Jodie (Mark) Hetherington, Sabrina Trollope, and Dylan Trollope (Caitlin Bochek); as well as 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 15th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate and interment will take place at Brandon Cemetery at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Maud’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
