Genevieve Larson
Genevieve (Genny) Laverne Larson aged 84 years of Rouleau, SK, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. Genevieve was born August 18th, 1940, in Rouleau, SK to Elizabeth and Harley Gooding.
She was predeceased by her parents, as well as brothers, Donald and Gordon Gooding; sister, Lorelei Gingrass; daughter, Teresa Kindrat; and granddaughter, Jessica Kerber. Genevieve, who will always be lovingly remembered, is survived by her partner, Eugene Buckshaw; twin sister, Janice Beingessner; brother, Brian (Lorna) Gooding; children: Kathy (Lyle) Bennett, Lyle Kindrat, Mike Kindrat, and Christine (Don) Kerber; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Genny grew up on a farm in Rouleau and spent her youth there. She relocated to Moose Jaw, SK after marrying and they began their family of five. As the kids got older, Genny became a Bartender at the Union Centre. She was very well known there for her love of jokes and laughter, her sternness when people stepped out of line, and her notoriety as a pool shark. Genny eventually moved on to a career in Central Supply at the Union Hospital and enjoyed many years of employment there, from which she eventually retired. Whether it was at home or at her places of employment, Genny always had the same work hard ethic with which she was raised. Her love for her hometown eventually brought her back there after years in Moose Jaw.
Genny had a multi faceted personality and was quite a character, with many varied interests and hobbies. Amongst them was the years spent being a member of the Royal Purple, her love for the Royal Family and of course, Elvis. Playing pool was Genny’s favorite hobby and to her last days here on earth she was still playing pool on her computer and relishing the Wins.
Back in the day Genny loved playing cards with her siblings for dimes, dancing up a storm, and drawing. She was an excellent artist with her focus on drawings of horses and portraits of women. She loved throwing parties and was a great host, whether it was for the Grey Cup, Christmas or Thanksgiving, filling her house with tasty food, love and laughter gave her immense pleasure. Baking pies was also another favorite. She derived as much pleasure in giving her pies to people as she did when she bakes them.
Her passion was horses. She admired their spirit and loved watching them run, especially the wild horses, no saddle, no bridles, just simply running free with their beautiful manes flowing behind them. Being a like minded soul, Genny felt a kinship to horses and filled her home with horse statues and pictures so she could always be close to them.
Genny was so strong and never shied away from hard, heavy work. When it came to building something or fixing something, whether it was a fence or a broken stereo, you could always count on her to have the tools to do the work and the strength to get the work done. She also had a great enthusiasm for pulling something apart to see how it worked and putting it back together.
She was bold and brazen and unapologetic for it; she had no problem speaking her mind or fighting for the underdog. Genny was also brave, courageous and tough. If you have ever heard the saying, “It’s not the number of times you get knocked down that count, it’s the number of times you get back up”, that was Genny. She always got back up! We love her and are so proud of her strength and resilience, and that sparkle in her eyes, her smile, and laughter will never be forgotten.
Thank you to all who helped Genevieve these last few years with her health challenges. Thank you to the Rural Rouleau Ambulance Service for the many times you got Genny to the hospital safely. Thank you to the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Reginal Hospital staff, especially the amazing ICU staff during Genny’s final days.
