Mona Beryl Laporte
Mona Beryl Laporte, aged 94 ½ years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away peacefully during the early hours of Monday, April 27th, 2015. Mona was born near Wiwa Hill, SK and grew up on the farm. She began working in the late 1930’s as a live-in domestic worker. Later she worked for Johnstone Dairies and Supermarket grocery store, both located in Moose Jaw. In 1944, she was named manager of McBrides store in Assiniboia, SK. It was quite an accomplishment for a female at that time. Mona married Eddy Laporte in 1946 and moved to his farm near Vantage, SK. In 1960, Mona and Eddy moved permanently to Moose Jaw. In addition to raising a family, Mona was active in a number of organizations such as Sweet Adelines, Grandview United Church, Home and School Association and local Quilting clubs. Mona and Eddy (deceased 2011) had four boys who, along with their spouses, miss their mother dearly: Barry (Mary) of Nobleford, AB, Rodney (Pam) of Moose Jaw, SK, Douglas (Ellen) and Noel (Marni) both of London, ON. Mona will also be sadly missed but not forgotten by her grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. Mona had a very open and loving heart. Her kindness and thoughtfulness was felt by many, both young and old. Some family members refer to Mona as the Angel of the West. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date in July. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
