Gertrude May Kowalski (née Letkeman)
Gertrude May Kowalski (née Letkeman), aged 82 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Friday, July 28th, 2017. Gert was born in June 1935 in the picturesque Shell Lake area, with the help of midwife Mrs. Hamm. Gert was the eldest daughter of Henry and Helen Letkeman. They moved to a farm close to Glen Kerr with her older brother Ray, and more siblings were born later. Her youngest brother Paul and sisters were born in Glen Kerr. The happiest time in her life was as a young girl, riding horses Orphan Annie and Blaze daily, and enjoying the farm life and the close company of two special friends, Jeanie and Norma. Barely a day went by that she didn’t mention her horses or friends with fond happiness and an excited smile on her face. Gert moved to Moose Jaw in 1953 and worked at MacKenzie Jewelers, where she met the one and only love of her life, Charles Kowalski. Mysteriously, his watch seem to break almost weekly and he would take it into the jewelers to be repaired again and again. They were married in 1954 and had 3 daughters and a son, whom she loved immeasurably until the day of her passing. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Helen Letkeman; husband, Charles; daughter, Yvonne; granddaughter, Crystal; and 4 of her siblings. Gertrude will be lovingly remembered by her children: Virginia (Tom), Sandra (Rudy), and Tyronne (Jeanie); son-in-law, Blaine; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives. In keeping with Gertrude’s wishes, there will be no public Funeral Service, but a Private Family Service will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Gertrude’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
