Jerry ‘Kono’ Konihowski
It is with profound sadness that the family of Jerry ‘Kono’ Konihowski announce his sudden passing Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 at the age of 65 years. Jerry was born in Moose Jaw, SK in 1953. He attended public school at Westmount and Empire Elementary, and then proceeded to graduate from Riverview Collegiate in 1972. Throughout high school, Jerry was an all-star athlete where he competed in basketball, volleyball, and track and field. Jerry continued his love for sports after high school by playing soccer with the Jaws, broomball with the Vikings, fastball with the Braves, and hockey with the Weakend Warriors. Jerry made and treasured life-long friendships throughout those years. Jerry and Dala (Smith) were married in 1990 in Banff National Park and soon after welcomed their two beautiful children into the world. It brought Jerry incredible pride and joy to watch his children play sports as he was always a very family-oriented man. Jerry and Dala built and spent many years enjoying their cabin with their family and friends at Buffalo Pound Lake. Jerry would never hesitate to lend a helping hand and always made an effort to connect with others. Jerry and Dala were able to enjoy lots of fun and laughter on their multiple vacations, including their recent trips to Mexico with Nettie, Harland, and other close friends. Jerry worked at the Canadian Salt Plant at Belle Plaine, SK for 42 years and recently retired in 2015. He was predeceased by his parents, Dmetro and Anna Konihowski; brother-in-law, Gord Mathie; and in-laws, Wally and Queenie Smith. Jerry will be remembered with love always by his wife of 28 years, Dala; daughter, Kelsey (Cody) of Saskatoon, SK; son, Bretton of Moose Jaw, SK; brother, John (Diane) of Calgary, AB; sister, Nettie (Harland) Schaber of Red Deer, AB; brother, Ed (Bonnie) of Moose Jaw, SK; along with nieces and nephews: Janna (Ryan) Dubyk, Alana Konihowski, Rob Mathie, Derrick (Shannon) Konihowski, and Kristy (Darren) Soyka; sisters-in-law, Nola (Jim) Keay, and Cindylane (Dale) Mierau; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be held on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cosmo Centre, 235 – 3rd Ave NE, Moose Jaw, SK. Please join us as we honour and celebrate a life well lived. Having lost a brother I know we question what God plans for all of us. It has bee a while since John and I spoke. I hope the family rejoices in their 65 years and remembers only the best of times.
I heard of Jerry’s passing through my brother, Cliff. I attended Westmount & Riverview Collegiate with the Konohowskis. I was always amazed by their athletic abilities as I too was on the track team there. My deepest condolences are with the families at this very difficult time. His flame was snuffed out way too soon.
