Margaret Alma Knights
Margaret Alma Knights, 89, of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away on the 18th of May 2024. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of death. Margaret was born on January 13, 1935, to Dora and Glen Hastings in Brantford Ontario. After she graduated from Brantford High School, she then went to Woodstock Ontario General Hospital to become a Registered Nurse. While she was attending the school, she met her future husband, Richard Ernest Knights. They married on September 12, 1959, going on to have two children, Paul and Carolyn. They traveled to Europe while Richard was in the Royal Canadian Air Force, but ultimately decided to call Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan home for the next fifty-seven years of her life.
During her 35-year career as an RN, she got to know so many people in the community and became quite involved in her little city. She would often be found at church events, school activities with her children or out with her friends in the Red Hat Society. She spent many years playing baseball and even earned the nickname “Slugger” from the league.
You could always count on Margaret remembering special occasions and birthdays, never missing an opportunity to send one of her homemade cards. She had a love for adventure, whether it was going on a hike, skiing, or camping. There was a time when she just loved to jump into the car and go for a long drive on a beautiful summer day. But her true happiness was at home, gardening and tending to her flowers or baking sweet treats for Richard.
She is survived by her husband Richard Knights, daughter Carolyn, granddaughter Kristina and her family, Curtis, Connor, Kellen, and Declan, as well as her brother Ralph Hastings, and many others. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Dora and Glen, brothers Kenneth and Melvin, her son Paul, and grandsons Lorenzo and Bryon.
A Graveside Service to honour Margaret will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery, 1804 Caribou Steet West, Moose Jaw. The family requests that in leu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s name be made to the Cancer Society 200-325 Manning Road NE Calgary, AB T2E 2P5.
Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Cara Ashworth Funeral Director 306-693-4550
We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Margaret. She was a lovely lady who will be missed by all who knew her. Another St. Andrew’s member gone. We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to her Husband Richard and the rest of her family and friends. May she rest in peace. Take care.
To Marg’s Family. My deepest condolences to all of you. Margaret always had time for a visit. I was fortunate enough to have had her as a mentor at Providence hospital when I started there in 1994. It didn’t matter who you were or what you did she always had words of encouragement. And of course her favorite phrase ” On to it “.
My condolences to Richard, Caroline and family: Marg was an angel I remember having many cups of tea with her and Richard. The trips to the cottage and the maritimes. Her standing in as my mother a few times. I’m sorry we lost track over the years, but know she is in my heart and I loved her. Your memories will help you at this difficult time. Rest in Peace Margaret.
To Caroline and her family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mom was my first Boss and at the end she was a good friend and neighbour. We had lots of good laughs all over a cup of tea. . She loved to sing and I am sure that heaven will be glad for another voice in the choir. She was a good nurse and teacher and I am better for having known her. May peace be with you all.
