MaryAnne King
It is with great regret and sadness we announce the passing of MaryAnne King of Central Butte, Saskatchewan on February 11, 2007 in Wichita, Kansas. MaryAnne was born May 23, 1942 at Ridgedale , Saskatchewan . She was predeceased by parents Frank and Annie Currie, sister Donalda Currie of Nipawin, and brother-in-law John Wilson of Elbow. MaryAnne is survived by husband Glen King of Central Butte, sons Robin (Ruby) of Saskatoon, Colin (Laurie) of Regina and Evan (Marlene) of Medicine Hat; siblings Clarence (Thelma) Currie of Martensville, Bill (Berna) Currie of Nipawin and Pat (Al) Chapman of Creston, BC; brother and sisters-in-law Calvin (Audrey) King of Central Butte and Anne Wilson of Elbow; grandchildren Alexander, Thomas, Ashley, Jessica and Mikayla; numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. MaryAnne grew up and went to school in Nipawin. She graduated Saskatoon Teacher’s College in 1961 and met her husband Glen while teaching in Kinistino. MaryAnne and Glen taught school in various communities including Kinistino, Rosetown, Saskatoon, Central Butte, Star City, Brisbane (Australia), Carrot River and Nipawin. She retired from Nipawin School Division in 1998. During her distinguished career as a primary school teacher she returned to the University of Saskatchewan to complete her B.Ed., with convocation in 1990. MaryAnne loved to travel. She and Glen visited family and friends in the Rockies, Canada ‘s west coast, the Prairies, the Maritimes, Australia , New Zealand , Hawaii , Brunei , and Mexico . Since retirement, she enjoyed annual trips to the Gulf region of Texas . MaryAnne was an accomplished pianist and accompanist and loved to entertain her classrooms and family gatherings with music, singing and dancing. She was an avid reader, cribbage player and took great joy in personalizing scrapbooks and photo albums for her loved ones. She enjoyed hosting family and friends and reveled in her role as “camp cook” in hunting season and on the pony chuckwagon circuit. In her younger years she was a provincial high school basketball champion, played softball, enjoyed skating with her family, and was an avid fan at her husband’s and sons’ sporting events. MaryAnne was discreet with her wise advice and counsel, generous with her time and efforts, and patient, forgiving and compassionate with her loved ones. She had great curiosity, and lived every day of her rich and varied life like an adventure, delicately balancing skill and competence with humility and love. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating in her memory to the Easter Seal Society of Saskatchewan, 2310 Louise Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7J 2C7. MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane (off Thatcher Drive ), Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on Saturday, February 24 th, at 1:30pm.
