Glen Robert King
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Glen Robert King of Central Butte, SK on Monday, March 21st, 2016. Glen was born on January 21st, 1941 in Saskatoon, SK. He was predeceased by his wife, MaryAnne; parents, Harold and Florence King; parents-in-law, Frank and Annie Currie; sister-in-law, Donalda Currie; brothers-in-law: Clarence Currie, Bill Currie and John Wilson; and granddaughter, Jessica Olson. Glen is survived by his sons: Robin (Ruby), Colin (Laurie) and Evan (Marlene); siblings, Calvin (Audrey) King and Anne Wilson; sisters-in-law: Thelma Currie, Berna Currie and Pat (Al) Chapman; grandchildren: Alex, Thomas, Ashley and Mikayla; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Glen grew up on the family farm near Bridgeford, SK and attended school in Bridgeford, then high school in Riverhurst, SK. From there, he attended Teacher’s College in Saskatoon, SK. His first teaching position was Kinistino. During his second year in Kinistino, he met his wife MaryAnne. During his distinguished career as a teacher and administrator, he returned to the University of Saskatchewan to complete his B.Ed. Glen taught and held administration roles in various communities including Kinistino, Rosetown, Saskatoon, Central Butte, Star City, Brisbane (Australia), and Carrot River. Glen served with the Saskatchewan Teacher’s Federation including a term as President. Glen retired from his 34 year teaching career in 1993. Throughout his life, Glen was involved in sports and was an accomplished athlete and coach in football, track, hockey and other sports. He enjoyed music, played several instruments and sang in a quartet. Later in his life, he rediscovered his passion for driving horses. He was competitive in Chuckwagon Racing from 1976 to 2014. Glen lived a rich and varied life, had a great sense of humour, and an extremely sharp wit. For many he was a leader and a mentor. Many remember him as an important influence in their lives. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and interment will take place in Tugaske Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating in Glen’s memory to John Dolan School Parent Council, 3144 Arlington Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L5.
