LEONARD FRANCIS KILKENNY
It is with great sadness that the family of LEONARD FRANCIS KILKENNY announces his passing on July 21st, 2009 at the age of 83 years, with his family by his side. Leonard was born August 10, 1925 to Catherine and Edward Kilkenny. He was born and raised in Moose Jaw. He received his education at St.Agnes School and post secondary school in Motor Vehicle Mechanics at Saskatchewan Technical Institute. He began employment with the PFRA in 1942 and in 1944 he was drafted with the Canadian Army Service to serve his country in World War II and was discharged to return to civil life on the 25th day of June 1946. He continued employment with the PFRA for 41 dedicated years of service, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed 25 more years of healthy retirement. On February 9th, 1957 Leonard married the love of his life Phyllis Paysen and spent 47 years of wonderful marriage. Together they had 5 children and enjoyed many happy years as a very close family, travelling every summer on a vacation together to see many parts of Canada and the U.S. Leonard was a true family man. Leonard was predeceased by his wife Phyllis in 2005; an infant son Joseph in 1965; his parents Catherine and Edward Kilkenny; mother and father-in-law Elizabeth and Charles Paysen; his brothers Jim (Marjorie) and Gerald “Pat” Kilkenny; his sisters Doris Kilkenny and Marion Clement; sister-in-law Irene(Alvin)Broadis; brothers-in law Wilf Walkeden , George Paysen, and Ken Miller. He is survived by his 4 loving daughters Marilyn(Darrin)Smith, Dawn(Kevin)Tondevold, Colleen(Jeff)Bennett and Gaylene(Mac)Kilkenny; grandchildren Bria (Brad),Derek, Mike(Kimberly), Matt(Kayla), Corey, Tanya(Dallas),Dana, Jillian, Jade, and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kelsey, Hailey, Braydan, Sydney, Mackenzie, Nate and Chase; his sister Eileen Walkeden of Tribune,Sk.; sisters-in-law Dorothy Kilkenny of Moose Jaw, Agnes Paysen of Saskatoon, Sk., and Marjorie Miller of Ottawa, Ont.; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors who shared a part of Len’s life. The Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Father Carlos Jimenez will officiate.Legion Rites will be observed by Roscoe Steele of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59.
