George Edwin Kerfoot
George Edwin Kerfoot died at Extendicare in Moose Jaw on September 7th, 2010 at age 90. Predeceased by his wife Margaret, his brother Jim, sister-in-law Mary and nephew Brian, George is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Brenda (Ziolkowski) and his daughter Marilyn. From the age of six, when his parents, Lorne and Hannah, left the homestead at Spring Valley, George lived in the Moose Jaw area where he farmed until his retirement in 1984. He truly enjoyed his work, and although deeply influenced by the Depression years of his youth, he often said he farmed during “the best years”. A friendly and outgoing person, George had a wide array of friends – his neighbours in the Baildon, Old Guard and Tilney districts, and those he met through curling, square and round dancing, and golfing. Although he lacked a formal education, George loved to read and talk with friends over a cup of coffee about any topic under the sun. George had the good fortune to celebrate his 90th birthday with family and friends at a party held in his honour last winter at The Bentley. Marilyn, Gordon and Brenda are thankful that their dad had that opportunity to visit with many people who had been an important part of his life. The family wishes to extend warm thanks to the Home Care staff of the Five Hills Health Region, Extendicare and Dr. Luhning for their kind and compassionate care of George. A private service will be held at Sunset Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the CNIB, 2550 Broad St., Regina, SK. S4P 3Z4, which was so helpful to George during the ten years he struggled with macular degeneration.
