James Albert “Jim” Kelly
James Albert “Jim” Kelly, aged 95 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Thursday, February 27th, 2014. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery Veterans Section. Padre Doug Shepherd will officiate. A Time of Fellowship for Family and Friends will be held on Wednesday, March 5th, 2014 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 268 High St W., Moose Jaw, SK. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Louisa. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his children: Andrew (Sandra), Susan (Bob), Elizabeth, Kathleen and Patricia; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers: Peter (Claudia), Michael and John; sisters-in-law, Hilda and Marion; and nephew, Johnny. Jim joined the British Forces in 1938 and served with the Duke of Wellington 7th Infantry during WWII. He served in D-Day, France, Belgium, Holland, Norway and Iceland. After the war, Jim came to Canada and worked in Goose Bay, Labrador building runways. Jim worked his way out west to Moose Jaw where he raised his family. He worked a number of jobs including C.P. Rail, the Base, Eaton’s Department store and retired from the library after 18 years. Jim was a Legion Liaison Officer to the Navy League and was involved in setting up the first Cadet Camp in Saskatchewan. He served for 42 years in different capacities for the Sea Cadets. Jim was also involved in the early stages of the Moose Jaw Wild Animal Park. He was a lifetime member of the Legion and served in various capacities – Hands Across the Border, Poppy Fund, Legion Color Party and was a blood donor for many years. Jim enjoyed fishing in his younger years, gardening and family gatherings or camping. He was a very loving father and wonderful Grandpa and a very good friend to have. Dad was our hero and will be sadly missed. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jim’s name may be made to The Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, 268 High St. W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1S8.
