Mona Eleanor Jones (Cooper)

Mona Eleanor Jones (Cooper) of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully on October 7th, 2016 at the age of 101. Mona was born in Moose Jaw, the youngest of a family of 7 children.  She graduated in the first graduating class of Peacock Collegiate as a bookkeeper/stenographer.  She managed both the Kresgee’s and Eaton’s lunch counters before leaving for Vancouver in 1942.  There she worked as a bookkeeper until she came home to Moose Jaw to be married to Ronald Jones in November of 1945.  Together they raised 2 children (Ray and Gayle).  Mona went back to work in the office at Eatons in the early 1960s and retired 15 years later.  Mona was a very positive person who enjoyed life to the full. Her cheerful personality was infectious. In her younger years Mona was an active member of the Canadian Girl Guides and made many lasting friendships.  At the age of 97 she rejoined the organization as a member of the Trefoil Guides, actively participating and making many more friends.  Mona loved gardening and doing handicrafts.  She made her own stationery with flowers from her garden. Above all else Mona cherished her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. Mona is predeceased by her husband, Ronald Jones and will be lovingly remembered by her son, Raymond (Carol) Jones; daughter, Gayle Jones; three grandsons, Shaun (Tara), Andrew, Michael (Brenda); two great grandchildren, Carys and Walker; sister-in-law, Maxine Jones as well as numerous nieces and nephews.   The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 14th, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Aidan Anglican Church, 124 1st Ave. NE, Moose Jaw SK. with Reverend Doctor Dean Pinter presiding. Flowers are gratefully declined.  As an expression of sympathy donations in Mona’s name may be made to the Moose Jaw Trefoil Guild/Girl Guides of Canada, 1228 Caribou Street West, Moose Jaw SK, S6H 2L7 or to the St. Aidan’s Building Fund, 124 1st Ave. NE, Moose Jaw SK.
