VERLA JANE JONAS (née Estes)

August 25th, 1931 – March 15th, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce Verla’s passing on Wednesday, March 15th, 2017.  She was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska to parents Samuel and Annie Estes.  Verla stayed in the State of Alaska until coming to Canada in 1964.  As well as by her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Harold Hutchison; second husband, Pat Jonas; and brothers: Sam, Bill, Bob, Ed and Joe Estes.  Verla is survived by her: son, Wally (Wanda) Jonas of Moose Jaw, SK and their children Amber (Tim) Wilk and family, Serina Calfas (Keith), Patrick Jonas, DawnAnne Jonas (Chase) and family; daughter, Lenny Hutchison of Memphis, TN and her sons Kevin (Lynn) Powers and family, and Mike Powers; daughter, Sherry (Scott) Cravins of Bakersfield, CA and their son Matt (Stacy) Hanks and family.  Verla worked in the hospitality industry for 40 years at different establishments in and around Moose Jaw.  She also sold Avon for over 30 years, gaining recognition with a Porcelain Doll for attaining continued high sales status in the Avon’s President’s Club for 25 years in a row, an honour she worked very hard for and was proud to achieve.  After her retirement, she resided in Victoria Towers, with the last few years spent at Capilano Court where she was well cared for by the wonderful staff and management there.  Verla will always be remembered by those who loved her for her fierce and feisty Alaskan spirit.  A Celebration of Verla’s Life will be held on Monday, March 27th, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Timothy Eaton’s Senior Center, 510 Main St N, Moose Jaw, SK.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Calvin Gammel, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
