Jean Marie Iuon
Jean Marie Iuon, aged 90 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Monday, May 22nd, 2017. Jean was born on the farm at Valor, SK. At the young age of 16, she and her older sister Della journeyed to the west coast where they picked fruit and worked in a plywood factory. Businesses were not eager to hire “stubble jumpers” but she was hired as a waitress at Roxy’s Restaurant by Chris Iuon, who would later become her husband. After Roxy’s, the couple signed on with Canada Railway News to manage railway “Beaneries” as they were called throughout Western Canada. Their first posting was Jasper, Alberta – a place they returned to frequently. Daughter Wanda was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and it was when she started school they moved back to Saskatchewan. They managed the Prairieview Esso restaurant in Assiniboia until moving to Moose Jaw in 1964. Jean worked at the Harwood Hotel before starting at St. Anthony’s Home, where she eventually became Head Cook. She was respected and loved by staff and residents and mentored many people during her career, eventually retiring in 1991. She enjoyed a long and happy retirement, living life to the fullest, never afraid to take on a new challenge or adventure. She loved and looked forward to her annual trips to Jasper where she enjoyed visiting with old friends Rose and Fred Wall. Predeceased by her parents, Francis and Fred Robinson; husband, Chris Iuon; brothers: Steve, Lorne, Eddie, and Pete; and infant brother, Franklin; Jean is survived by her daughter, Wanda (John); sister, Della Weberg; sister-in-law, Laurette Ferraby; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as “special daughters” Cyndy (Dale) Stricker and Melody (Mike) Robertson. Also mourning are her extended fur family, including Sophie, Goofy, Rusty and Karma (her guardian). In keeping with Jean’s wishes, no Funeral Service will be held. If you wish to honor Mom, raise a toast to her and enjoy a good meal (including dessert!).
