Edna Leona Isley
Edna Leona Isley, aged 93 years, of Pioneers Lodge, and formerly of Chaplin, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully with grandchildren by her bedside on Wednesday, October 17th, 2007. She is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Bill Isley in 1993; her father Louis Hammer in 1954; mother Minnie Hammer in 1973; and brother Henry Hammer in 1923. Edna is survived by daughter Leone (husband Cliff Petit, and their children Allison (Trent) Shillington and Darren (Dori-Anne)); daughter Elinor (husband Duncan Battrum, and their children Cheryle and Heather (Court) Fetter); son Bud (wife Carolyn Graham, and their children Virginia and Karolayna); sisters: Luella (Raymann) Hammer & Mabel Harty; six great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends. Edna farmed with her husband Bill in the Halvorgate district north of Chaplin from 1937 to 1970 at which time they sold the land and took up full time residence in Chaplin. Edna remained a true child of the land, and even though the hard times and droughts of the “dirty thirties” left an indelible mark, she retained her farmer’s love of all growing things. Once settled in Chaplin, with access to ample water supplies, she took great pleasure in being able to liberally water her flowers, lawns and gardens which flourished under her green thumb. Edna’s next great passion was quilt art and sewing and she generously shared her sewing skills through instruction of young people in 4-H and in teaching sewing classes in various surrounding communities. In 1983 Bill and Edna moved into Moose Jaw where Edna pursued her love of sewing and quilting at the Moose Jaw & District Senior Citizens Association. She and other like-minded volunteers lovingly produced numerous examples of quilt art to customer order, or to be raffled off to generate significant funds for the association. Her greatest love, however, was for her five granddaughters and her grandson for whom she kept closets full of snacks and treats when they would come to visit. Edna and Bill enjoyed many fishing trips to northern Saskatchewan, and their travels throughout Canada, the USA and Great Britain. A Celebration of Edna’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane, with Pastor Doug Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. For those so wishing, donations in Edna’s name may be made to the BridgePoint Centre for Eating Disorders, Box 190, Milden, Sk S0L 2L0.
