Joan Pavier-Hunter
Joan Pavier-Hunter passed peacefully into the arms of her Saviour on Sunday, February 4th, 2024. Joan was born April 20th, 1932, in the Courval/Mossbank, SK district, the youngest of four children born to Lena and Helmer Haug. She chose teaching as a career and taught at Kalamazoo, Elkhead and Mortlach, SK, a life she thoroughly enjoyed. Joan married Bill Pavier in 1952 and became a farm wife, later returning to teaching until her retirement, a second time. They were blessed with four children – Dale, Bev, Hazel, and Kevin. Spending time with family and friends was one of her greatest joys. Joan had many camping trips with friends and annual camping weekends with the extended family. She loved to travel and experience life and learn from people in other parts of the world, “rubbing shoulders” with them was always exciting to Joan.

Joan is survived by her husband, Del Hunter; son, Dale and Leslie Pavier, grandchildren: Brock (Jen) and their children Jack, Ella, and Bronwyn, Rachelle (Joel) and their children Braxton and Aveya; daughter, Bev and Duncan McIntyre, grandchildren: Kelsey and her children, Finley, Thea, Millie and Jasper, Pearce (Kineshia), Janae; daughter, Hazel and Phil Tempel; son, Kevin and Marilyn Pavier, grandchildren: Amanda (Colby) and their children, Ross, Chloe and Emerick, Des (Kaylee) and their children, Beckett, Rowan, and Charlie. She is also survived by her chosen son, Begna Shone; many nieces and nephews; her stepfamily: Trish and her children Josh (Brittany) and their child Teagan, Adam, Courtney, Drew and Noah, and Sharilyn (Stan) McCracken; as well as Del’s brothers and sisters.

Bev, Duncan, and family – so sorry to hear about your mom. Sending you a virtual hug, Bev.
A good teacher, neighbor & friend. Had many great conversations with Joan over the 70 years of knowing Joan, the last being late last year. Joan was Mortlach and she had many stories about teaching or riding her bike around Mortlach. Thought’s go out to all the kids.
Cliff,
She wrote a special memory of you in a memoir: you weren’t sure you wanted to attend Mom and Dad’s wedding because you had planned to marry her when you grew up. Good to know you were special to her and you continued to connect with Mom over the years.
Bev

SO sorry about your Mom’s passing. Loved her personality one just had to love her and never forgot her as the years went by. I still use her pie crust recipe when I get ambitious to make pies. Hugs to all of you and she will never be forgotten.

My sincerest condolences on Joan’s passing. I felt so welcomed to the family, way back when, especially by the Mortlach branch – Bill, Joan and the kids. Joan always gave me such wise advice, with a twinkle in her eye and a pat on the back. She will be missed.
Candis, Thank you for remembering us. Did you catch a glimpse of yourself in the photo of everyone at the farm kitchen? We so enjoyed having you and the family and neighbours while you were in Mortlach. Bev
Our deepest sympathy to the Pavier family. Joan was just one great person – so full of energy and vitality. Most of our family were lucky to have had her for a teacher…she was one of the best. Mortlach School was fortunate to have had “Mrs. Pavier” for so many years. She will be remembered
Thank you for your kind words about Mom. Bev
Our deepest sympathy Del, we sorrow for the loss but rejoice at heaven’s gain.
Thankful for your visit and the pleasure of meeting Joan. She was a shining light
for her Savior.
Joans families.I was unable to attend the funeral due to roads and weather.I am so sorry.
We were so sorry to have to miss your mom’s funeral, due to a very infectious flu, but were able to listen online to the very touching service. She was such an incredible person and a very special friend to our family. Mom said she was the first person to welcome her to Mortlach and they remained lifelong friends, with a very deep and lasting relationship. Our whole family so appreciated your mom’s enthusiastic generosity, kindness and caring. She was always there for us in good times and bad. We will always remember her with love and appreciation.
Glenda and Gerry Julian
Glenda,
Yes, our Moms had a special friendship. Mom was grateful for the strong, supportive bond she had with Irene throughout their lives. There are many wonderful memories of times spent with the Greggains family.

I am very sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. I had the privilege of working with Joan when I started out as a new speech pathologist, a mixture of know-it-all and fear that I would not do it right. Joan welcomed me in, gently mentored me, and gave me confidence. She radiated deep caring for students, and I felt honoured to say “I know her”.
Norma, Mom loved working with you and said you were the best speech pathologist had the opportunity to work with. Thank you for sharing your memories.
Marianne,
Thank you for the hug.
Bev
