Doreen Georgene Howe
Doreen Georgena Howe aged 99 years of Mitchellton, SK, passed away on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024. Doreen Georgena Houck was born February 17th, 1925, in Winnipeg, MB. She was the oldest child of Reta and George Houck. Doreen was very close to her siblings: Edith, Bill, and Donna.
Growing up on the Lauder farm began with humble beginnings, outdoor toilets, no radio, no television, etc. in the early years.
Doreen went to Normal School in Winnipeg following high school, where she became a teacher. She taught in a one room class (all ages) for a short time. Doreen met the love of her life, “Gordie” in Hartney, MB where he was working at the bank. They were married and Doreen became a full-time mother and co-owner of the farm. Doreen’s children: Linda (Nick), Randy (Merle), Marlene (Claire), Bryan (Susan), and Karen (Glenn), all adored her.
Doreen worked hard gardening, assisting in the fields, driving trucks, cooking, teaching Sunday School, and was active in the Mitchellton United Church.
Doreen and Gordon were married fifty-nine years when Gordon passed away in 2009. They loved to dance together. They knew each other’s movements so well they were magical to watch as they glided across the floor in perfect unison. Doreen and Gordon had the good fortune of travelling to the east coast, Florida and Hawaii, and spent many winters in Texas as seasoned Canadian Snowbirds.
Doreen has left a legacy of love behind in her sixteen grandchildren and spoke of them with love and pride. The love continues in the lives of the thirty-five great-grandchildren, and more. So much life, so many blessings.
A Memorial Service to honour Doreen will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

I express my deepest sympathy in this time of sorrow. The Bible gives a comforting hope that your loved one will come to life again on a peaceful paradise earth when death will be no more in John 5:28, 29 and Acts 24:15.
