Alexander William Hood
Alexander William Hood was born February 21st, 1926 in Central Butte, Saskatchewan to Margaret Isabel (Martin) and Thomas Wallace Hood. He died on June 28th, 2010 in Moose Jaw. Alex was predeceased by his parents and his two sisters – Margaret Mazie (Isaac) Haile, and Helen Lois (Chris) Newton. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews – Barbara (David) Gilbert, Wallace (Barbara) Haile, David (Kathy) Newton, Greg (Corinne) Newton and Janine (Lynn) Gregor and his great nieces and great nephews – Kathleen Gilbert, Thomas Haile, Sean (Adele) Haile, Jessica Haile, Nathan Newton, Zachary Newton, Chris Gregor, Bronson Gregor, Dallis Newton and Walker Newton. Alex attended Vermillion and Lawson Schools. After graduation, he worked in Claresholm, Alberta. He returned to farm the family farm upon his father’s death in 1952. In 1961, he trained and apprenticed in Moose Jaw as a licensed embalmer and funeral director and eventually opened his own business – Hood Funeral Home – in Chaplin. When Alex retired, he spent many summers at his cottage in Palliser Park. A highlight of each year was always the family visits and the obligatory turkey dinner, with the wings reserved for himself and of course, Saskatoon pie for dessert. Alex was an active member of the Chaplin Lions Club, Meals on Wheels and a lifelong member of the Moose Jaw Humane Society. He enjoyed bowling in Morse, playing cards and many a game of golf at Riverbreak Golf Course and was on both the Park Board and the Cottage Board of Palliser Park. Alex was a Life Member of the Saskatchewan Embalmers Association and a Life Member of the B.P.O. Elks. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 5th, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Chaplin Community Hall, Chaplin, SK. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate. Burial will take place in Riverhurst Cemetery at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. If you wish, a donation in memory of Alex may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Lung Association, or the Moose Jaw Humane Society.
