LORNE ALVIN HERON
Lorne was born on May 26th, 1945 at Moose Jaw, SK to Anne and Alvin Heron. He passed away Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023 at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Regina, SK. He was predeceased by his parents, and by his infant son Alvin. Lorne is survived by his wife, Mickey; daughters: Keri (Terry), Shawna, and Tanya (Dave); grandchildren: Darian, Justin, Tre, and Matt; great-grandson, Jacob; sister, Janice; brother, Stew (Lorraine); brother-in-law, D’Arce; as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Lorne grew up on the family farm southwest of Marquis, SK and attended elementary school there. He attended Moose Jaw Technical High School for grades 9 and 10. In 1961 Lorne joined the Canadian Army and obtained his grade 11 and 12, training as a mechanic. In 1963 he transferred to Regina for a year and then was stationed in Germany for two years. In 1966 Lorne joined the Moose Jaw Police Service. He decided that was not the career for him and in 1967 he joined SGI, working as an adjuster for 14 years in Moose Jaw and Regina. He then joined with Al Powers to buy an insurance agency serving Brownlee, Eyebrow and Tugaske, SK and opened a Moose Jaw office in 1984 that he owned until retiring in 2010. At this time Lorne decided to build his own home, doing much of the construction, electrical, and plumbing himself. In retirement, Lorne and Mickey enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Arizona, making many new friends. Lorne volunteered with several organizations including being on the board of Big Brothers for 17 years, the board of Moose Jaw Union Hospital, and was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, Canadian Legion, and ANAVETS. He was a sportsman, playing baseball and hockey, and as a curler his team played at a tournament in Scotland. In recent years bad health limited Lorne’s activities and ultimately he suffered from incurable interstitial lung disease. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 13th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery.
