Joseph Hemmett
April 26 th 1924 – September 9 th, 2007
“The Tiger is at rest”. Joe passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9 th, 2007, at the Union Hospital . He had been in failing health for a number of years and now he suffers no more. Joe was employed by the C.P.R. for over forty years until his retirement. It was there he acquired his nickname “Tiger”. In addition, he was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, employed at Prairie Airways and the Canada Car & Foundry in Fort William. He was also a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He took great pride in his upholstering and flower gardens. He loved his sports, especially football & baseball, old movies and westerns. Known for his great sense of humor, he was a treasure to all who knew him. Joe is survived by devoted and beloved wife of 60+ years, Pat; son, Rick of Calgary, and daughter Grace Keay with life partner Randy Allen from Calgary; granddaughter Staci with her life partner Joe Dick, along with three great-grandchildren, Eric Hemmett, Juliann Hemmett/Dick and Lana Scarth; one brother, Bill (Marj) Hemmett of Kelowna B.C. and many nieces, nephews and friends. Joe was predeceased by his parents Archie Hemmett and Mary Miller; brother, Jack; sisters: Amy and Gladys (Chick); mother & father-in-law Harvey and Cecilia Vermette; sister-in-law, Yvonne and numerous aunts, uncles & cousins. At Joe’s request, cremation will take place. A celebration of Joe’s life at the Heritage Inn, Spencer Room, on Saturday, September 15 th 2007 commencing at 2:00 p.m. By request, no flowers please. Donations gratefully accepted to the Kidney Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Charity of One’s Choice. The family wishes to thank Dr. V. Rininsland, Dr. Majid, the numerous other doctors who tended to Joe, all the nurses, support staff, dietary and housekeeping personnel who helped make Joe’s last days comfortable and peaceful.
