Jens Hansen
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jens Hansen of Moose Jaw, SK on Friday, January 29th, 2016. He passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital. He was born in Ulsted, Denmark on October 8th, 1924 and his first job was working as a farm laborer. In 1948 he left for greener pastures, coming to Canada, and began working on a dairy farm in Hardisty, SK. He then worked in the oil rigs, eventually settling in Moose Jaw where he operated his own gravel truck business. After retirement, he began beekeeping as a hobby. This soon turned into a full-time passion for the self-taught man. He and his family were very proud of the many awards won at Agribition which brought him much fame. Jens was very hard working and mechanically inclined. He enjoyed gardening and had a love for animals, especially horses and dogs. He was very involved in his children’s activities, from Gymkhana to BMX racing. One of his favorite things was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether it be watching them playing, attending activities, or just spoiling them with Smarties. He was a big fan of the Toronto Maples Leafs, always cheering for his grandson Tyler. Jens was predeceased by his wife, Olga and is survived by his children, Kathy (James Endicott) and Terry (Keitha); grandchildren, Amanda (Marty) and Emily; and great-grandchildren, Troy and Mia. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Sharon (Marv) Merkel, Bev (Yogi) Arnold, Karon (Mitch) Bozak and Dale Polonich (Gail); grandchildren: Kim (Terry), Kevin, Chris, Keri (Brad), Shawn, Stacey, Scott (Trista), Justin and Tyler (Molly); great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Kaedyn, Tryton, Tylan, Hendrix, Nigel, Nico and Kanon. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the staff at the Crescent Park Villa and Dr. Geyer. The family would especially like to thank the nurses of the medical ward of the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for the tremendous care and compassion they provided to Jens and his family. In keeping with Jens’ wishes, there will be no Funeral Service. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jens’ name may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Todd Sjoberg, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
