It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy Ada Hamdorf (nee Fulcher), age 93, late of Moose Jaw and formerly of Rouleau, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Predeceased by her husband, John L. Hamdorf; parents, William and Alice Fulcher; parents’-in-law, Louis and Grace Hamdorf; sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and John Smith; brother-in-law, Richard Hamdorf; special friend, Bernard Sorenson. Dorothy is survived by her son, J. Barry (Debbie) Hamdorf; daughter, Vivian (Clint) Fortman; grandchildren, Trevor (Candice Zinn) Hamdorf, Tracey (Scott) Westrum, Amanda (Chad) Sylvestre and Matthew (Trinity Miller Lafferty) Fortman; great-grandchildren, Hyatt and Tessa Hamdorf, Jake and Rylie Westrum, Kiera, Austin and Hailey Sylvestre; nephews, Brian and Kent Smith and their families; special friends, Warren Tunison and Norma Clarke. She will also be missed by numerous cousins and friends. Mom was born at Stone, Saskatchewan, 20 miles south of Tompkins, on February 25, 1916. She came to Rouleau in 1938 where she found the love of her life, John. They were married on July 8, 1943 in Regina and moved to his family’s farm. They lived on the farm until 1973 when they moved to town and where Mom lived until her passing. She met every challenge and enjoyed life to the fullest. Mom was our mother, our teacher, our sounding board and our hero. She had a wonderful spirit, a quick wit, a ready and welcoming smile and a work ethic that was second to no one. She gave us values and beliefs that got us through life to today and will get us through the rest of the way. She lived by the golden rule and believed that everyone should as well. We were truly blessed to have her in our lives for so long. She lived a good, happy life and was content with all that really mattered – her family and friends who were her greatest joys. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rouleau United Church, Rouleau, Saskatchewan. Pastor Jo Mader will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined; however, donations may be made in Mom’s memory to the Rouleau United Church or to the Rouleau Seniors’ Centre.
