Charles Grant Hall
Charles Grant Hall of Moose Jaw and formerly of Riverhurst passed away with his family by his side at Extendicare, Moose Jaw, on Monday, October 26th, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Grant was born August 21st, 1932 in Lucky Lake, Sask. and received his schooling at Bernard Country School and Lucky Lake High School. At the young age of 20 Grant met the love of his life and married Doreen Lisell. Grant loved life on the farm and in 1956 purchased the Duncan Bell farm 8 miles southeast of Riverhurst. Grant and Doreen raised their children Roger, Debby, Sharlene, Tiffany and Jennifer in a very loving and caring home. Grant and Doreen were always “family first” type of parents and for that the children were always very grateful. Grant and Doreen enjoyed many good times in their marriage of 57 years, and also shared the difficult times, steadfast in their support of one another. Grant was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved the competition of team sports, namely hockey, baseball and curling. He was instrumental in the building of the first Riverhurst Community Rink, and for many years was the pillar of strength on defense for the Riverhurst team in the River Lake Hockey League. His towering fly balls over the centre fielder’s head at the old park west of Riverhurst (now under Lake Diefenbaker) were another testament to his prowess as an athlete. Grant was predeceased by his parents Charles and Annie Hall, his son Roger Hall, grandson Jason Pollock, son-in-law Scott Fletcher, brother Frank, and sisters Margaret, Irene, Lillian, Edith and Grace. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 57 years, Doreen; his daughters Debby (Don), Sharlene, Tiffany (Darren) and Jennifer; daughter-in-law Janice (wife of the late Roger Hall); grandchildren Heather (wife of the late Jason Pollock), Jane (Cliff), Jennilee (Jeff), Kristin, Dustin, Dakota, Dalena, Dayton, Mariah, Justyn and Logan; great grandchildren Cheyenne, Joseph and Kaitlyn; sisters Pearle Welwood and Shirley (Art) Ewen; brother Ken (Joy); brother-in-law Marlow (Dianne) Lisell; and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 30th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Minto United Church. Rev. John Carley will officiate and interment will be held at Riverhurst Cemetery at a later date.In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Grant may be made to the Alzheimer Society, 301 – 2550 12th Ave., Regina, Sask.
