Douglas Perry Gummeson
Douglas Perry Gummeson, aged of 61 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 due to diabetes complications. Born on June 23rd, 1955 in Elrose, SK, Doug was well known for the legacy of music he left. He was the National Music Festival Champion in brass in his early 20’s, and taught music privately and with several organizations. Many former students pursued careers in music, performance and teaching across the country due to his influence. A verse that he carried in his wallet and that gave him strength was “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have PEACE. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33”. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Percy and Ethel Benedict; and father, Frank. Doug is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Phyllis; children: Lana, Sharla and Rod (Victoria, Noah, Warren, Liam, Jenna, Isaac, Andrew, and Samuel), and Carley and Micah (Spencer, Zachary, Malakai, and Isabella); mother, Loreen; brother, Elmer (Denise); sister: Caron (Rick); mother-in-law, Merle Dryburgh; in-laws: Beryl (Brad), Myra (Duncan), and Ken (predeceased); as well as nieces and nephews: Clint (Sherry), Rhonda (Mike), Kevin (Tanya), Cayla, Rachell (Kevin), Abby, Kristen (Leif), Dylan, Kyle, and Emily. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 1st, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Victory Church, 637 Main St N, Moose Jaw, SK. Pastor Dan Godard will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Special thanks to Dr. Braun, Dr. Abdulhadi, and the Regina Home Dialysis unit.
