Herman Anton Gross
Herman Anton Gross, aged 91 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17th, 2017 at Providence Place with staff Michelle and Janice by his side. Herman was born on the family farm in the Hodgeville district on October 23rd, 1925, the second oldest of four boys and two girls. He was predeceased by his father, Anton; mother, Elizabeth; brothers, Joe and Albert; sister, Marlene; and grandson, Lee. Herman will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Gloria; sons, Rodney (Nancy) and Richard (Linda); daughters, Glorianne (Michael) Bjerland and Carol (Ted) Wornath; grandchildren: Nikki, Clayton, Karl (Joanna) and Adam (Shawna) Gross, Chantel (Craig Zakaluzny), Carissa and Shane Wornath; great-grandchildren: Anton, Daytona and Savanna; brother, George; sister, Margie (Bob Percival); as well as many nieces and nephews. Herman began farming in 1948 and married Gloria Leugner in 1952. They semi-retired to Moose Jaw in 1992 and sold the farm in 2004. He loved the land and was very fond of the farm animals, especially dogs. Mom and Dad enjoyed square dancing for 25 years and old time dancing, polka music and the ‘Old Time Fiddlers’ were favorites. Herman was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. The family wishes to thank the staff at Providence Place Raphael Wing for their tender loving care for the past three years. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 24th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 3rd Ave NW, Moose Jaw, SK. Father Bert Lillo will be the presiding celebrant and interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, February 23rd, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Herman’s name may be made to the Providence Place Foundation for the Raphael Wing, 100 – 2nd Ave NE, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1B8.
