DAVID ALLAN GRIGG
April 22nd, 1942 – November 28th, 2010
David was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on April 22nd, 1942. He lived with his parents Allan and Roberta, his 3 sisters Carol, Sandy, and Sharon, and his brother Rob, on a grain farm near Archydal, Saskatchewan. As a boy David learned the meaning of hard work and dedication as he helped his Dad on the farm. Those traits served him well when he joined the Air Cadets as a teenager. David attended Peacock Technical School in Moose Jaw and from there his interests led him to earn a Farm Mechanics diploma from the Saskatchewan Technical Institute and a certificate from the School of Agriculture in Saskatoon. In the late 1960s David worked as a mechanic at Huntley Baker Motors in the winter and as a farmer in the summer. On December 13th, 1972 David married Memorie Grace Johnsrude. They moved to the farm on a full time basis and purchased the family farm in 1974. David and Memorie soon became an established and respected part of the community where they raised a family of four children, Darrin, Taryn, Jeff, and Joel. The Grigg farm will always be remembered as the place that brought David true happiness. He took great pride in the upkeep and maintenance of his farm that glowed green with an abundance of John Deere tractors. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends by sharing stories, telling jokes, and playing cards. He spent many hours in his workshop designing and building custom metal parts. David quickly established himself as a true perfectionist that could build anything he imagined. Often people and companies approached him to build a part that couldn’t be bought from a retail outlet. David always ensured that along with the part came coffee and conversation in his workshop, or as many of his friends came to know it, the “Fiddle Centre”. David will truly be missed by his friends and family. He was a loyal and honorable friend, a generous and kind father, and a loving grandfather. He dedicated 28 years of his life to the AA program where he practiced and shared the values of honesty and loyalty. In his later years he purchased an airplane and pursued a private pilot’s license. He was an active member of the Regina Flying Club and often visited Corman airpark in Saskatoon where C-IIQC (his ultralight) was kept. David will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his wife, Memorie; his sisters, Carol, Sandy, and Sharon; his children, Darrin (Children – Ashley, Dylan); Taryn (Husband – Steven, Children – Matthew, Paige), Jeff (Wife – Tracie, Children – Jordan, Amanda), and Joel (Wife – Heidi, Children – Alyssa, Logan) and the countless friends that loved him. A Time of Reflection will be held on Monday, December 6th, 2010 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home with an open mic to begin at 2:15 p.m. Donations may be made in David’s name to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, Box 58000, Saskatoon, SK. S7K 7Y4.
