VERNETTA GRIFFITH (KENNERLEY) née Rodgers
October 18th, 1915 – February 29th, 2016
It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we bid a fond farewell to a very special mother, who passed away peacefully with family by her side at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Prince Albert, SK. Vernetta was born in Ontario to her parents, George and Mary Rodgers. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers: Earl, Ed and Bill; sisters: Ethel, Ida and Dora; first husband, Tom Kennerley; second husband, Stan Griffith; daughters, Ester (Bud Richards) and Marjorie Kennerley; grandsons, Terry Kennerley and Bob Moore. Vernetta is survived by her son, Allen (Joan) Kennerley; daughters, Patricia (Lloyd) Keller and Shirley (Ron) Cassidy; sister, Margaret (Palmer) Hansen; brother, Jim (Mary) Rodgers; 10 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Vernetta was a member of St. Andrews United Church in Moose Jaw for 47 years, member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, and member of the Moose Jaw Legion Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years. She loved to travel, spent months in France and many European countries, and was a Snowbird for over ten years. Vernetta was a golfer, curler and a great card player (especially cribbage). She loved to bake, knit, crochet, garden and oil paint. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 12th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Reverend Jim Tenford will officiate and interment will take place at Grand Valley Cemetery, ON at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Vernetta’s name may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59 Poppy Fund, 268 High St W, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1S8 or a charity of one’s choice.
