Frederick Ogle Goldsney
Frederick Ogle Goldsney went home to be with his Lord on June 11th, 2009 at the age of 85. He was residing at Providence Place in Moose Jaw at the time of his death. Fred was predeceased by his parents Eunice (Ogle) and George Goldsney, three brothers David, Arthur, and Robert and two sisters Edith and Ruth. He will be missed by his wife of 63 years Dorothy (nee Elliott) Goldsney; his son Mervin (Diane) Goldsney of Sherwood Park, Alberta; his daughter Beverly(Brian) Skaar of Lakota, North Dakota; three grandsons Joel (Sharon) Goldsney, Nathan (Ameris) Goldsney and Jonathan Skaar; three granddaughters, April, Melody and Carissa Skaar; one great grandson Garrett Goldsney; three great granddaughters Tarissa, Hailey and Emily Goldsney; and 37 foster children. Fred was born June 4th, 1924 at the Union Hospital in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. His parents were living on their homestead in the Archive District at the time of his birth. Fred received Jesus as his Saviour at the age of five at his mother’s knee. He attended Prince Arthur School. At age 15 his first job was milking cows at a salary of $15.00 per month. He worked one summer for Kassguard Construction, and one winter cutting ice from the river for the Western Ice Company. In 1941 Fred started working for Robin Hood Flour Mills were he worked for 28 years, with the exception of 2 ½ years in the Canadian Army during WWII. After the mill closed down in 1969, Fred worked as a carpenter for the next 2 years before taking a job as a steam engineer and watchman for the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration known as the P.F.R.A. Fred started his final job in 1980 working for the Department of National Defence at the Moose Jaw Armoury in the same type of position as the P.F.R.A.. Fred served with the Regina Rifle Regiment from 1942 to 1945. He was a D-day veteran and was wounded twice during the war. On June 29th, 1946 he married Dorothy Elliott in Moose Jaw. He was a member and past board member of the Moose Jaw Church of God. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Hasmatali and Rev. Brian Skaar will officiate with burial at Rosedale Cemetery. A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Legion Rites will be observed by Roscoe Steele of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59.
