Sydney John Glassford
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sydney John Glassford on Tuesday, October 15th, 2013 at the age of 91 years. Syd spent his whole life serving others, his country in the RCAF during WWII, his community as a businessman and a lifetime Lions member. Syd was born June 20th, 1922 in Aneroid, SK. He grew up and worked in the Eastend area until joining the R.C.A.F. in November 1942. After his discharge in November 1945 he tried farming in the Loomis, SK area. After a few disappointing years, Syd moved to Tisdale and went into the electrical business. In 1952 Syd moved to Moose Jaw and started working for Arrow Electric, eventually becoming a partner and remained at Arrow for 34 years until his retirement. Syd married Viola Marie Walter on December 29th, 1942. They had two children, Bob and Vicki. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Viola; brothers, Robert and Richard Glassford; and sister, Vera Smith. Syd is survived by his brother, Albert; son, Bob Glassford; daughter, Vicki Blanc (Doug); grandchildren: Jed Glassford, Jill Glassford, Melissa Blanc, Matthew Blanc (Kelly Cobbe) and Nadine Blanc (Greg Wright); great-granddaughter, Charlee Wright; as well as many special nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Syd’s Life will be held on Monday, October 21st, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Bill Thomson will officiate and a private family interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Syd’s name may be made to the Saskatchewan CNIB, 2550 Broad St., Regina, SK S4P 3Z4. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
