Edward Albert Gies
Edward Albert Gies, aged 80 years of Moose Jaw, SK., passed away on Sunday, January 15th, 2012. In keeping with Ed’s wishes a Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery. Ed was born on March 31st, 1931 in Moose Jaw. He married Flo Stevens on November 15th, 1958 and together they raised their three daughters. Ed worked in the hardware industry and was employed at Blackwood Wholesale for most of his working years. He was also a member of the A.C.T since 1954. He enjoyed many pastimes over the years: fishing, curling, camping, travelling, puttering in his shop and gardening. Ed, and his wife Flo, had many great neighbours on Victoria Street and they were very good to him after Flo passed away. Ed thoroughly enjoyed his move to the Mulberry, where he met up with some old acquaintances and made many new friends. He couldn’t go anywhere around town without running into someone he knew, and he would stop to chat with them all. Predeceased by his wife, Florence; brother-in-law, Gary North and sister-in-law, Net (Alvin) Emmons. Ed will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Donna (Arnie) Francoeur, Linda (Fintan) Quilty and Brenda (Desmond) Flood; four grandchildren: Brandon, Ryan, Jason and Emma; sister, Maryann North; sister-in-law, Marge (Al) Watson; nephews, Dan North (Jamie Friesen) and Kelly North; and numerous other relatives. We would like to thank doctors Braun, Ramadan and Majid and all the doctors in the ER. All of the nurses at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital were very kind and caring to Ed and very compassionate to the family in his last hours. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Association of Canadian Travellers ( A.C.T.) c/o President Cary Haubrick, 1111 Montgomery St. Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 2X2 would be appreciated by the family.
