ILSE EMMA FLORKIEWICZ
January 21st, 1932 – February 19th, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ilse Florkiewicz who, according to her wishes, was able to pass peacefully in her own bed surrounded by family. Ilse was predeceased by her husband, Gustav and is survived by her two brothers, Franz and Rudi Schirmer (Germany); her sons: Harold Klee (Halifax), Robert Florkiewicz (Whitehorse) and Dennis Florkiewicz (Moose Jaw); five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ilse’s passions were her flowers and gardening in the summer and her stitch work in the long winter months. Ilse was born in Frankfurt, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1957 where she married Gustav Florkiewicz and settled into their home in the newly developed mining town of Manitouwadge, in Northern Ontario. She took on odd jobs to bring extra money into the home while they raised three boys. Ilse learned English by watching television and reading books and through the support of her German and English speaking friends. She landed a job as a library assistant and eventually became head librarian, where she was able to share her passion for books. She was very independent but greatly appreciated the support and generosity from friends and neighbours in Manitouwadge. Ilse moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in spring of 2012 to be closer to family. She is dearly missed by family and friends. A Celebration of Life is planned for spring in her home town of Manitouwadge, Ontario. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
