Genevieve Ann Finiak

Genevieve Ann Finiak, aged 83 years of Moose Jaw, SK. and formerly of Lake Valley, SK., passed away September 19th, 2010.  Genevieve was born to Wendelin and Anna Maria Bishchoff on December 27th, 1926 at Montmarte, SK.  She received her education at Sacred Heart Academy in Regina and was later employed at Regina News.  Genevieve married John Finiak on July 15th, 1950 in Regina and resided there for a short time before moving to their farm at Lake Valley.  It was there that they raised their family and farmed for over 50 years.  Mom and Dad also owned and operated the Red & White Grocery store and the hardware store in Brownlee for some twenty years.  As daughters, she taught us how to knit and sew and made many outfits for us during our school years.  We remember many family meals and the aroma of pies, baking and canning throughout the years.  She also enjoyed gardening and considered it as therapy.  Mom was an avid reader and kept up with current news and events.  We can remember Mom and Dad going to many square dances and Rowletta Club 500 events.  She also looked forward to curling in the winter months and attended many bonspiels in the district.  Mom joined the Catholic Women’s League in Marquis and the Church was a very important part of her life.  Genevieve was predeceased by her husband John in 2005, son Tim in 2010, brothers John and Jack, and sisters Catherine, Elizabeth, Rose and Ann.  Genevieve is survived by her daughters Lynda (Nick) Thul, Rosanne (Dave) Chamberlain and Janice Heisler; daughter-in-law Janice Finiak; grandchildren Tony, Karena, John, Jessica, Christine, Aaron, Sarah, Peter, Leanne, Andrew, Samantha, Jason, Kelly and Alissa; great grandchildren Austin, Abby, John, Jaycee, Victoria, Genevieve, Taylor, Amelia, Payton, Kaitlyn, Cody, Harper, Ciera, Brooklyn and Jayce; brother Adam and sister Clementine.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 25th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Marquis, SK.  Father Rick Krofchek will be the presiding celebrant and interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.  A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, September 24th, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Flowers are gratefully declined.  Donations may be made in Genevieve’s name to St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Box 54, Marquis, SK.
