JOHN DUNCAN FINDLAY
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jack Findlay on Sunday, June 7th, 2015 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital at the age of 89 years. Dad is now reunited with Mom and life is no longer a struggle for him anymore. Plans were in the works for a celebration for Dad’s 90th birthday this summer but somehow Dad knew that it wasn’t going to happen and he told us all that maybe he wouldn’t be here. Once again – Dad was right! He was predeceased by his wife, Lee Findlay; granddaughter, Vanessa Eddie; along with all of his brothers and only sister. Jack is survived by his loving family: Gord (Wendy) Findlay, Don (Holly) Findlay, Sheree (Jim) Parker, Corey (Jay) Eddie and Suzie (Randy) Knight; grandchildren: James (Amanda) Findlay, Tammy (Chris) Arden, Jennifer (Phil) Pattison, Lindsay (John Greene) Parker, Collen (Nate Deobald) Parker, Kevin (Samantha) Eddie, Kristen Eddie, Brant and Jason Knight; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Landon, Logan and Hayden Findlay, Katy and Alaina Arden, and just recently, Sadie Eddie; sister-in-law, Erna Findlay; as well as many other nieces, nephews and other family members. Dad was the second youngest in a family of five and was born on August 12th, 1925 in Moose Jaw, SK, starting his life in Drinkwater, SK. He was the son of Ralph and Gladys (Cairns) Findlay. Life was not easy for his family as they lost their mom on February 3rd, 1936 and both Frank and Gordon died at a young age. Dad lived with Gramma Cairns. He had many jobs in his younger days including, farming, delivering milk for Johnston Dairies, driving a gravel truck for Frank Cairns and finally joined the CPR in 1947. He retired from the CPR in 1986. Dad and Mom were married on July 21st, 1951 and raised their family of five children in a big, green house on Connaught Avenue. In 1995, they moved from the house that we had all known as home and began a series of moves that saw them end up at the Mulberry Estates. After the loss of mom in 2013, Dad found it a struggle to go on but found pleasure spending time with his family. Highlights were his trip to Calgary for Jennifer’s wedding and the birth of Sadie Lee just this past October. Dad was lucky that he was never really alone as he had Gord, Don and Suzie, who took exceptional care of him and made sure that he was always well looked after. Every parent should be so lucky to have such dedicated children. Jack went into the hospital on May 27th, 2015 and although we didn’t know it at the time, seemed to know that he was finally going to be reunited with Mom. He received exceptional care from the staff and as a family we are thankful that our Dad was treated with such good care and respect. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 11th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jack’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
