Newton Douglas Farnel passed away on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 at the age of 79 years. The Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 7th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Linda Owens will officiate. A public visitation will be held in the Moose Jaw Funeral Home on Sunday, April 6th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Newton was born on the family farm on May 31st, 1928. He was the youngest son of Joe and Nellie Farnel. He attended Clarendon School until he finished grade eight and then he stayed home to work in the family farm. He started working for the DNR in 1962, selling the majority of the farm to his brother Harvey, still keeping the home quarter which his son Keith later bought. After working for the DNR for nearly twenty years, he started a new career selling Lewis Cattle Oilers. Many years of poor health followed but he continued to garden, work around the yard and spend time on the farm. As his health continued to fail he learned how to use his computer, and he loved to receive e-mail from his friends and family. He spent many hours surfing the web and he loved to track down information and recipes for his less computer-literate family members. He died working in the garage with his wife Florence by his side. Newton was predeceased by his daughter Judy in 2004. He leaves to mourn his wife of 57 years, Florence and his seven children, fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. For those so wishing, donations may be made in Newton’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Sask., 279 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, Sk., S7K 2H8.
