Charles Alan Emerson
Charles Alan Emerson, aged 101 years of Central Butte, SK, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11th, 2015 with his loving daughter Linda and son-in-law Ron by his side. Al was born May 11th, 1914 on the family farm 3 miles north of Central Butte. After graduating high school he went to Normal School in Moose Jaw in 1934-35. Al proceeded to teach school for the next 35 ½ years. His teaching career began in the Littleville School (1936-40), the Butte View School (1941-42, 1947-50) and finally in the Central Butte School from 1950-78. During this time he taught many children and in several instances, taught one or two generations of the same family. Al served his country by enlisting in the RCAF. In 1943 he was stationed in Saskatoon, transferred to Lachine, Quebec in 1944, and then on to Yorkshire and Devonshire, England from 1944-46. Al married Fae Snider in October 1939. He married Audrey Robertson in March 1972. The Legion was a big part of Al’s life. He served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Central Butte Legion #213 from 1950-81 and was a Life Member since 1981. He also served his community by acting as Secretary-Treasurer of the Central Butte Ambulance Board from 1985-94 and was one of the founding members of the Lions Club. He was a member of the Central Butte Masonic Lodge #114 (AF&AM) from 1952-90, during which he served in several capacities including Master of the Lodge. Al enjoyed life, liked to dance and socialize with family and friends. He enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and also curling. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Lucy Emerson; brother, Lloyd; first wife, Fae; second wife, Audrey; and son, Gorald. Al will be lovingly remembered by his son, Blain (Laurel) of Hudson Bay; daughters: Brenda (Earl) Stirling-Brown of Nipawin and Linda (Ron) Colwell of Central Butte; grandchildren: Kimberly, Jeffrey, Ryley, Darren, Darla, Devin, Gillian, Stacey, Carla and Marty; 14 great-grandchildren; stepson and step-daughter, Bill Robertson and Diana McMillan and her children Cameron and Janelle. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Central Butte United Church with Pastor Doug Neufeld officiating.
