Eastwood- Fern Lorene
Eastwood- Fern Lorene (McArthur) aged 92 years of Moose Jaw, passed away on Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 with her daughter and son at her side. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 4th, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home (268 Mulberry Lane). Pastor Bill Thomson will officiate with interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery. “Rena” as she was known was born in Caron, Saskatchewan on July 3rd, 1915. Her parents John and Margaret McArthur moved from Caron and Rena grew up south of Moose Jaw. She was the youngest in a family of seven. One boy, Arnold and six sisters Teenie, Annie, Dorothy, Winnie, and Lorna. She attended Newberry, Red Lake and Camalachie schools and lived in those districts respectfully. Rena married Sam Eastwood on January 26th, 1937 and they farmed in the Baildon district until their semi-retirement to Moose Jaw in 1969. She lived in their Moose Jaw residence until 2003 when she decided that she wished to move into an assisted living facility. She chose Ina Grafton Gage Home and lived there and enjoyed the people and staff until her untimely fall breaking her hip, resulting in her having to move into the Pioneers Lodge. During her and Sam’s life they were ardent Square and Round dancers. They were the teachers of many in their Round Dance club the “Sam and Rena’s”. Dancing was a great love and they traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and the Maritimes with friends and fellow dancers. Rena loved to travel or just go for drives in the country with her daughter Jean and Cliff. Rena bowled for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Lodge. After moving to Ina Grafton she liked to go out for lunch with family especially to Wakamow. Rena loved sports and watched hockey, baseball and loved curling. In the last few years due to poor eye sight the sports were her pastime and would spend hours listening to different sports on the television. Rena was predeceased by her parents, her five siblings, her beloved husband Sam, her sons George and Alex, grandson Michael Parkhill and son-in-law Jim Kerr and daughter-in-law Judy Kaine. She is survived by daughter Irene (Jerry) Parkhill and their children Diane (Len), Allan (Kim) and Sandra (Kim) all of B.C.; daughter-in-law Faythe and her and Alex’s children Kenny, Barry (Gail) and Kristine (Todd); son John and his children Deanne (George), Darla (Tim), Della (Chris) and Misty (Kevin) and their mother Marlene; daughter Jean(Cliff) and her children Micheal (Laurie), Sam (Shelley) and Cody (Lindsay) as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren; sister Winnie of Saskatoon, special person Leanne and her family, Meaghan & Vaughan and extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fern’s name to Heart and Stroke Research at the Royal University Hospital (Foundation), 103 Hospital Dr. Saskatoon, SK. S7N 0W8 or a Charity of One’s choice.
