Susan Dyck
Susan Dyck ( nee Funk) passed away suddenly on August 18th, 2010 at Regina General Hospital. Up until her passing she remained extremely independent living in her own home in Riverhurst enjoying her flowers, garden and watching the birds. Susan P Funk (Susi Funk as shown on her birth certificate) was born to Peter W Funk and Elizabeth Peters on November 10, 1926 on land location 28-19-10-W3 near Main Center, Saskatchewan. Her father Peter died in 1934 when she was only 8 years old leaving her mother and the children to work the farm. Susan grew up looking after her mom, and was never too proud to work at any job to make a living. On July 2, 1952 she married Alfred Dyck. Susan is survived by her three children Murray (Debbie) and family of Edmonton, Alberta; Dale (Rhonda) and family of Sylvan Lake Alberta; and Marilyn (Jerry) Allison of Martensville, Sask. and their four children Chanse, Keally, Maverick, and Mckenna. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred of 56 years, and son- in- law William Tharp. She worked numerous jobs from farm hand to housekeeper, grocery store clerk and just being a devoted mom. She was a baseball player and played many years for the Herbert Womens’ ball team where Dad was the coach. Mom and Dad loved to dance and socialize attending many family weddings, anniversaries, reunions and Lions functions. She worked hard on the family farm, milking her own cows and feeding the chickens making weekly runs to Swift Current to sell the cream and eggs to help supplement the family. Countless hours were spent separating cream, making butter and baking homemade buns and bread. She always had a plentiful garden including this summer with more tomatoes than the rest of the neighbourhood. She loved to curl, whether it was on the ice or table top. She was a self taught singer and musician who played the guitar, organ and the accordion. Her favourite crafts were embroidery, crocheting, and spending many hours sewing clothes and figure skating outfits for Marilyn. Her happiest times were spent when the whole family was together and she drew strength from enjoying these moments. When one door closes it opens up another one that allows you to see the goodness that exists in the world and the people around you. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 2 pm. in the Riverhurst Community Hall. Rev. Rick McCorrister will officiate. A private family internment will be held at a later date. A very special thanks to all the family, friends, and neighbours who contributed to her well being while living on her own. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Central Butte & District Health Care Foundation, Box 582, Central Butte, Sask. S0H 0T0.
