Alfred Gordon Dyck
Alfred Gordon Dyck of Riverhurst, Sask. passed away November 24, 2008 at Central Butte Regency Manor at the age 83. Alfred was survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years Susan and three children Murray (Deb) and family of Edmonton, Alberta, Dale (Rhonda) and family of Sylvan Lake Alberta, and Marilyn (Jerry) Allison of Martensville, Sask. and their four children Chanse, Keally, Maverick, and Mckenna. Alfred was predeceased by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister, numerous sister and brother in laws , and son in law, William Tharp. Alfred was born on March 10th, 1925 in the RM of Excelsior at the land location 4-18-10 W3 to David and Katherine Dyck during a 3 day snow storm. Growing up on the family farm he attended the Los Angeles school which as Alfred describes was so close, “we jumped the fence and we were at school.” As a young man Alfred enjoyed breaking horses, playing ball and getting into trouble with his brothers. On July 2, 1952 he married Susan Funk and had 2 sons and a daughter. As a family they lived in Herbert till 1978 then moved on to Riverhurst where Alfred retired as a ferry operator. Alfred was always a man of many talents. He travelled all over the country from Consort, Alberta to Herbert and Riverhurst accomplishing many jobs from carpenter to mechanic and butcher to ferry operator. His love of animals was apparent from a young child. An avid horseman winning many rodeo trophies and awards. He was active with the Lions club for over 30 years. He was a dedicated father and grandfather never missing an opportunity to take his grandchildren to the workshop to build a new project. He was well known for his abilities to fix anything and was a friend to all who knew him. Leisure time was always spent with family, hunting, fishing, or camping. He also enjoyed baseball and curling.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 28th, 2008 at 2 pm. in the Riverhurst Community Hall. Rev. Rick McCorrister will officiate. A private family internment will be held at a later date. A very special thanks to all the nurses from Moose Jaw Union Hospital, Regina General Hospital, and Central Butte Regency Manor. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Central Butte & District Health Care Foundation, Box 582, Central Butte, Sask. S0H 0T0.
