Roy Duncan
It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the unexpected passing of Roy Duncan on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024, at the age of 85 years, with his wife and children by his side. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend, Roy touched the lives of so many. His legacy of love for his family, a zest for life, genuine relationships with friends, and gentleness of spirit will be forever cherished by those who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Ethel; brothers: Alan, Gordon, and Jim; and sister, Judy. Roy will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn; son, Darren (Susan); daughters, Rhonda (Chuck) and Jodi (Tony); grandsons, Brody (Candace) and Ryan (Maddy); granddaughters: Maddison, Kristen (Curtis), and Brooke; and great-grandsons: Blake, Weston, and Emerson. Roy also leaves behind two brothers, Gerry (Elaine) and Bill (Karen); as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Roy was born in Creelman, Saskatchewan on February 15th, 1939. In grade one his family moved to Lumsden, Saskatchewan and Roy spent all the rest of his childhood years there. After finishing school, Roy worked various jobs before joining SaskTel in 1959, initially as a travelling linesman. He was transferred to Estevan in 1959 where he met his wife Carolyn at the local curling rink. He and Carolyn were married in 1960 and their son Darren was born in 1961, with daughters Rhonda and Jodi following in 1962 and 1964. The family relocated to Moose Jaw in 1975. Roy retired as the Operations Manager of the Moose Jaw SaskTel office in 1993.
In his retirement years Roy enjoyed golf, curling, gardening, puttering around the garage and yard, shopping and visiting with family and friends. Roy and Carolyn spent many happy hours watching football (especially the Roughriders), golf, baseball, and curling on television. In his early 80s, Roy picked up the sport of pickleball after hearing about it from his son. He played up to four times a week at the Senior’s Centre.
Roy enjoyed travelling, over the years taking numerous trips with family to Hawaii, Palm Desert, Arizona, Mexico, Florida, and Las Vegas.
Roy had a soft heart for all things furry especially his beloved dogs Keela and Mika, and all those that came before them over the years. All the birds and rabbits were always well fed in Roy’s beautiful backyard. He tended to his extensive garden right to the end and the fruits and vegetables of his labor will be enjoyed by the family all summer and fall.
A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 27th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Those not able to attend may view the service by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/

Please accept my heartfelt condolences Carolyn and family on Roy’s passing. I worked with him at Sasktel for many many years and always enjoyed his presence. After retirement I always ran into him around town and had the greatest visits! I knew he loved his Saskatchewan Roughriders as he followed my son’s career when he played for them and he was always interested in knowing what Levi was up to. He will be missed greatly!

Hello Carolynn. I just happened to recognize the name Duncan so read the obit and decided you were our neighbors on Duncan Road in Estevan. I worked with you in the library at Hillcrest School. We moved to BC in 1988, Steve passed away on May 3/24 and Sherri passed away in 2022. I am living in Surrey in assisted living in Elim Village, I think of neighbors we have had and am interested in where they are. Sorry to read of Roy’s passing. Steve was 91 and Sherri was 60. Rhoda and Sherri were in school together. Just keeping in touch and thought I would write. My condolences! Jean Goertz. God bless!
