Florence “Edith” Dowling
Florence “Edith” Dowling of Moose Jaw, SK passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18th, 2019 just days away from her 92nd birthday. Edith was an only child born to Frank and Ruth Koslosky on August 22nd, 1927 in Regina, SK. Her family moved to Moose Jaw when she was 7 years old and she attended Ross School and Zion Academy. She studied nursing at Providence Hospital, graduating in 1949. Edith worked on the maternity ward until her retirement in 1986. Cliff and Edith were married Sept 6th, 1952 and together they welcomed 4 sons and 2 daughters. Edith’s pride and joy were her family. She worked hard and sacrificed so much for her children. She never turned down the opportunity to spend time with her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each grandchild’s birth was special to Edith. They brought her much joy and love and she knew they loved her just as much. Life was busy for Edith, but she made time to enjoy her flowers and gardening, travelling, family campouts, socializing with friends, and many nurses’ reunions. She was an active member of St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, as well as a member of the Catholic Women’s League (serving as president for two terms). She enjoyed volunteering at the seniors’ homes and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank (1988) and Ruth (1992); her eldest son, Frank (1991); her husband, Cliff (1997). Edith is lovingly remembered by her sons: Gordon (Shelley Pilgrim) and their children Amber Finiak, Stephanie Strate (Justin) and Chad Pilgrim; Dave (Lauren) and their children Michaela Turner (Troy), Adam (Amanda), Brandon (Kelsi Gieni); Paul (Michelle) and their children Michael (Alisha), and Andrea; daughters, Bonnie Martyniuk (Terry) and their children Matthew, Evan and Steven; and Audrey Sheppard (Shane) and their children Erin Stevens (Mitch), Makenna, David and Ryan; as well as 8 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Pioneers Lodge where Edith spent her last year of life. This includes the dietary staff that gave her special treats, the recreation staff for all the inclusion in activities, and the nursing staff who made her last days comfortable, especially Patti who made Mom feel so cared for. Your kindness did not go unnoticed. Also, we thank all the physicians who have been involved in Edith’s care over the years, especially Dr. Vermaak this past year for his compassionate care. A special thank you to her close friends Yvonne Johner and Clarice Oxley for their many years of friendship and for the care and compassion they showed Edith in her final days. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Father George Thattuparampil will officiate and a private family interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Edith’s name may be made to the Pioneers Lodge Recreation Fund, 1000 Albert St, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 2Y2. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Todd Sjoberg, Funeral Director 306-693-4550.

Gord, Dave, Paul, Bonnie and Audrey, I am very sorry to hear about Edith’s passing. Your mom was a very special lady and always made us feel like family. It is her smile that I remember every time I think of her which never seemed to fade. I am grateful I was able to visit with her a few years ago and will forever cherish the memory along with all the great memories we shared over the span of many years. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your families.
Just saw that there were messages sent to the funeral home website so sorry for the delay in replying to you Ellen. Mom shared many fond memories with your mom and family. I am so glad that you were able to join in on the long weekend reunion a few years ago and see mom. Lots of good memories. We miss her dearly but we know she had a long fulfilling life and was more than ready to go home. Please stay in touch with our family. Would love to keep connected.

You are home Edith, Rest In Peace. Thank you for greatest friendship, support and kindness that you shared with my mother and family. My mother, Margaret, always knew she was so blessed to have you in her life. The memories I have of you and Cliff visiting and the laughter and humour will never be forgotten. The kindness you offered to all of us Lyttle kids, and to Elizabeth Russell will always be cherished. Hope the four of you are having some great times up there reliving the days past. Debbie- sorry for the delay in replying to your message as I didn’t see all of the condolences sent to the funeral website. You were a very special person who mom connected with immediately when she moved into Pioneer Lodge. Thank you for treating mom with dignity, respect and friendship. You went beyond in keeping me up to date on her condition while I was away on vacation and I certainly had greater comfort in knowing you were watching out for her. Thanks again
Bonnie

Mike and Wanda,
You too are grieving the loss of your mother and mom’s friend. It was an amazing group of ladies who met many years ago as they all shared becoming widows at about the same time. It was great for them to plan dinners, birthday parties and card nights together.
Take care as well.
