WILLIAM (BILL) DORMER
June 13th, 1924 – September 27th, 2015
William “Bill” Dormer, aged 91 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Sunday, September 27th, 2015. Four generations of Dormers have lived in Moose Jaw. He was predeceased by his father, Billy; mother, Louisa; sisters, Julia and Daisy; and infant son, Donny. Born left-handed and on Friday the 13th, Bill was never considered unlucky and in fact was blessed to live with family around him. He found it difficult to concentrate in school and often daydreamed. On a test question “what are the 3 prairie provinces?” he wrote gopher, muskrat and chipmunk. After he became a Christian at 14 years old, Bill desired to learn and completed his high school by correspondence while serving on a Corvette ship for the Canadian Navy during World War 2. Both mom and dad created a home environment of music and all the family is musical. Bill played violin from the age of 14 and loved playing hymns and singing cowboy and World War 2 songs. Much later in life he started learning the piano and guitar. Bill had numerous hobbies and interests such as memorable trips camping, Saskatoon Berry picking, hunting, canoeing, fishing and hiking with Ted (the dog). Bill leaves to grieve: his wife of 67 years, Muriel; children: Carolyn, Ken, Gord (Colleen) and Ron (Donna); grandchildren: Chad (Wendy), Cherise and Jared (Amie); and great-grandchildren, Miles and Joaquin. A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held on Thursday October 1st, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Walter Engel officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s name may be made to Joe’s Place, 402 Main St N, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 3K2. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
