Laurence Melvin Dick
Laurence Melvin Dick, aged 83 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital with his family by his side on Friday, December 7th, 2007. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 12th, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Bill Thomson will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Laurence was born on the family farm near Abernethy, Sask. on December 27th, 1923. He received his education in Abernethy and the U of S. Laurence worked on the family farm with his dad and brothers. During that time he met his soul mate Vina, and they were married in Toronto at Danforth United Church on December 30th, 1948. Eventually they moved back to Saskatchewan where he was employed at the Sask Wheat Pool for 30 years, working at three elevators in Surbiton, Marquis and Boharm. While living in Marquis, Laurence was very involved in the Community Club, the United Church and the Curling Club. Marquis was a good community to raise their family. After retiring from the Wheat Pool, Laurence worked at Macleods Hardware Store. Laurence enjoyed golfing, traveling, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, gardening, meeting his pals at the Park Hotel and was a life time member of the Elks Lodge #7. His greatest enjoyment was his family and all the fun family gatherings that we had together. Laurence was predeceased by his parents Agnes and James; infant daughter Audrey; brothers Bill and wife Lil, Elton and wife Jewel, Wes, Allan; sister Marjorie and husband Mac Runciman; brother in law Lawrence Burton; in laws Nell and Harry Crossman, Rhona and Doug Kay, Allan Farrell, David and Lizzie Marshall, Robert Marshall, Norrie Marshall and Alex Millar. Laurence will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years Vina; son Ken; daughters Dianne Kolybaba (Glen Callfas), Gail (Barry) Smith, Sandra (Tom) Rogers; grandchildren Angela (Barry) Leflar, Brad Smith, Lori Kolybaba, Tamra (Brad) Birnie, Jill Rogers, Kailey Smith, Samantha Rogers; great-grandchildren Jaden, Kaylen and Alysia Leflar; three sisters Gwen (Norman) Legaarden, Beth (Fred) Blackmore, Lenore Burton; sisters in law June Dick, Dorothy Dick, Rachel Millar, Flo Marshall, Muriel Marshall; many nieces, nephews, friends and Tigger the cat.
