Lionel Joseph Cyrenne
Lionel Joseph Cyrenne, aged 72 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away peacefully after a brief and very brave battle with cancer on Monday, June 3rd, 2013. Lionel was raised in Ponteix, SK, the youngest of 15 children. He met the love of his life, Alice Sincennes, during his first year teaching in Val Marie, SK and they were married on April 25th, 1962. They were happily married for 45 years until Alice’s passing in 2007. While helping to raise their four daughters, Lionel attended summer school for many years to attain his Bachelor’s degree and later his post-graduate degree in Education. Lionel worked as a principal and deputy director in the Moose Jaw Catholic School division and then as Director of the Federal and Provincial French programs for the Official Minority Language Office in Regina. In 1999 he finally joined Alice in retirement and together they traveled extensively across Canada and abroad. They also enjoyed camping with the Good Sam Club and spending their winters in Mexico. After Alice’s passing, Lionel continued to pursue traveling and went on a 40 day eastern European tour. Lionel was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren camping and teaching them how to fish. Lionel could often be found in his workshop building projects from pictures, plans or creating something of his own. Lionel was a real handyman and was always willing to help his daughters around their homes. He loved to golf and was a regular Monday night golfer at the Deer Ridge Golf Course. Predeceased by his wife, parents and numerous other relatives, Lionel will be lovingly remembered by his four daughters: Colleen (Wayne) Mitchell, Michelle (David) Steele, Gail Cyrenne and Lisa Cyrenne (Norm Renwick); eight grandchildren: Taylor, Rogan and Jaxon Mitchell, Alex and Henry Steele, Kurtis (Chay Anderson), Lukas and Haylee Haubrick; great-grandson, Elijah Haubrick and numerous other relatives. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 7th, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 3rd Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw, SK. Father Barry Anwender will be the presiding celebrant and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, June 6th, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lionel’s name may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre c/o Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, SK S4T 7T1.
