Ruth Cridland (nee: Nunweiler)
Ruth Cridland (nee: Nunweiler) passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015 following a battle with cancer. She was a resident of Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Ruth was born on March 9, 1932 in Eatonia, Sask. to parents Edward and Wanda Nunweiler and grew up on the farm at LaPorte, Sask. She was the oldest of 3 girls. During her early teens, she helped out as a hired girl for families in the area. She married William Cridland on March 9, 1950 and together they farmed and raised their family of 5 children at Mantario, Sask. As well as being wife, mother, and farm hand, she covered summer holiday time at Kellington’s store doing Post office and clerk. Upon retirement, they moved to Kindersley and had many great years busy with family and friends. Health issues lead to them moving to Moose Jaw, Sask. in 2012. Ruth and Bill were married for 63 years. Ruth is lovingly remembered by daughters, Janet (Gary) Westbury, Cheryl Cridland, Kim (Reuben) Bahnman; son, Bill (Shelley) Cridland; son in law, Clifford Bennett; sisters, Jean (Jim) Hamilton and Donelda (Allen) Stern; sisters in law, Florence (Don) Startin, Bessie Shillington, Gladys (Bill) Hitchcock; brother in law, Jim (Lorna) Cridland; grandchildren, Stacey Westbury Wilson (Aaron), Alyssa Bennett, Mekonnen Cridland, Miheret Cridland, Tenaye Cridland and Mitike Cridland; great grandchildren, Cameron Getz Bennett and Harlow Wilson, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by husband, Bill (2014); daughter, Adele Bennett (2012); grandson, Jason Westbury (2013); sisters in law, Elsie Cridland and Frances Gordon; brother in law, Don Shillington; parents, Edward and Wanda Nunweiler and her in laws, Victor and Minnie Cridland. Ruth was a great cook and baker – best buns and squares you could imagine! She packed up many fabulous lunches for the RM. meetings, supporting Bill when he was Reeve, as well as lunches for many other events. She was a talented seamstress and loved music – playing the piano by ear, and she had a green thumb with her flower gardens. She always extended a welcome to one and all any time you popped in and she’d serve some of her dainties. She and Bill volunteered and helped out wherever possible in the community. She was very involved with Eastern Star and cherished those friendships. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday, August 22nd, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the Hillcrest Apostolic Church Fellowship Hall, Moose Jaw. The family would like to extend a Thank You for the kindness and loving care shown to Mom during her time at Chateau St.Michael’s and Extendicare over the past three years. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Ruth’s name may be made to your charity of choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
